Advanced Nurse Practitioner

The advanced nurse practitioner will provide medical services in a primary care clinic in collaboration with family medicine or internal medicine physicians. The nurse practitioner will provide general and preventative care, conduct check-ups, treat illnesses, order lab tests, and prescribe medication for children and adults. The nurse practitioner will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and documenting patient care, frequently advising patients on health maintenance and disease prevention or providing case management.

Essential duties include conducting thorough medical histories, performing complete physical examinations, initiating appropriate lab, radiology tests, and ensuring continuity of care by serving as a liaison between patient and other members of the multi-disciplinary care team. The nurse practitioner must also maintain competence in his/her area of specialty by attending professional conventions or seminars.

Qualifications include a graduate of an accredited APRN training program, current Ohio RN and APRN licensure, a current certificate of authority and certificate to prescribe by the Ohio Board of Nursing, family medicine or internal medicine experience preferred, and required certifications such as BLS to be obtained within 6 months of hire. ACLS or PALS may be required based upon practice setting.

The nurse practitioner must demonstrate patient centered care and behavioral expectations, promote patient and employee safety, and meet the physical requirements of the job which include routine potential exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues, ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds, and ability to sit, stand, push, pull, bend, and squat.
