Zoning Code Enforcement Officer

The Planning and Development Department is hiring a full-time (40hours weekly), non-exempt Zoning Code Enforcement Officer to join our team. The purpose of this position is to enforce and investigate violations of York County land use and nuisance codes and ordinances; write citations, prepare and maintain documentation, prepare for and testify at court hearings. Projected Salary Range/Grade 114: $23.85 - $28.62, salary is determined based on experience and education. Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am -5:00 pm Duties and Responsibilities: Responds to citizen complaints of ordinance violations. Works with property owners and other County staff to resolve ordinance violations. Researches the zoning and ownership of each non-compliant property. Performs field investigations, gathers evidence to establish proof of a violation, and prepares notice of violation letters, which requires the ability to drive and operate a vehicle. Assists in preparing documentation and evidence for court cases and testify, as needed, at court proceedings. Enforces the County’s sign and nuisance ordinances, coordinating investigation and determinations with other County departments as necessary. Performs related work as assigned. Minimum Education and Experience: Associate’s Degree. Three (3) years of experience of code or law enforcement experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Special Certifications and Licenses: Valid state driver’s license. Applicants with equivalent experience and/or education may be considered. Physical Demands: Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations. Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment): Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken. Involves routine and frequent exposure to: Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen. Extreme heat and/or cold; Wet or humid conditions. Extreme noise levels, Animals/wildlife.
