Machinist (2nd Shift)

This role operates CNC and manual shop machinery with a primary focus on machining metal materials on lathes. You will run repetitive production work, including drilling holes in cold-rolled steel, while setting up machines and editing existing programs as needed to meet blueprint specifications.

• Operate CNC lathes to machine metal components according to detailed blueprints and specifications.
• Set up CNC lathes, including tooling, workholding, offsets, and machine parameters for each job.
• Run repetitive production work, primarily drilling holes in cold-rolled steel and other metal materials.
• Review and interpret blueprints to determine dimensions, tolerances, and machining processes required.
• Program or edit CNC programs, including G-code, to produce parts accurately on lathes.
• Adjust uploaded programs to correct dimensions, improve quality, or optimize cycle time when needed.
• Operate vertical and horizontal CNC mills, including 3-axis and 5-axis machines, as required.
• Use control systems such as Fanuc, Haas, and similar interfaces to operate and adjust CNC equipment.
• Perform basic manual machining on manual lathes and mills when required to support production.
• Set up and verify tooling and fixtures to ensure safe and efficient machining operations.
• Measure and inspect parts using calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring tools to confirm tolerances.
• Monitor machines during operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance conditions and make adjustments.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area around CNC lathes, mills, and related equipment.
• Follow all safety procedures while working around welders, cutting equipment, and moving forklifts.
• Communicate with team members and supervisors about part quality, machine issues, and production status.
• Work 2nd shift from 4:00 p.m. to midnight, including scheduled overtime as needed.

• Proven lathe experience, specifically operating CNC lathes, is required.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings accurately.
• Experience programming CNC lathes, including creating and editing G-code programs.
• Hands-on experience running CNC lathes in a production shop environment.
• Familiarity with operating vertical and horizontal CNC mills, including 3-axis and 5-axis machines.
• Ability to perform machine setup, including tooling, fixturing, and offset adjustments.
• Proficiency using precision measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers.
• Comfort working with control systems such as Fanuc and Haas or similar CNC controls.
• Capability to perform basic manual machining on lathes and mills when needed.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain consistent quality in repetitive work.
• Awareness of shop safety practices when working around welders, cutting equipment, and forklifts.

• Experience adjusting existing CNC programs to improve part quality or correct issues.
• Familiarity with different tooling types and their applications in turning and milling operations.
• Exposure to multi-axis machining, including 3-axis and 5-axis mills.
• Comfort working with cold-rolled steel and other metal materials in a production environment.
• Ability to stay focused and productive while performing repetitive machining tasks.
• Strong communication skills to coordinate with coworkers and supervisors in a busy shop setting.

This position is on 2nd shift, working from 4:00 p.m. to midnight, with regular overtime currently around 10 additional hours per week. The facility is a loud, nonclimate-controlled industrial environment where temperatures can fluctuate with the weather. You will work around welders, metal-cutting machines, and other heavy equipment, and you must remain attentive to forklift traffic moving materials throughout the shop. The work involves operating CNC lathes, vertical and horizontal mills, and related equipment while using precision measurement tools in a busy, production-oriented setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of OLATHE, KS.

The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $30.00/hr.
