Systems Safety Engineer

Safety EngineerBAE Space Systems is seeking a Safety Engineer in our Colorado Springs, CO office. This role reviews product systems, associated support equipment and facilities, functional specifications and operations, and establishes safety requirements for assigned systems. The engineer independently analyzes and recommends safety criteria in system design, equipment, and procedures to control or eliminate hazards. They develop safety documents as required to support customer and test/operational range requirements, perform audits of operational areas, and report the effectiveness of the system safety program. Additionally, the role involves participating in accident investigations involving damage to products or related facilities and assisting in the identification of causes and corrective actions. The Safety Engineer evaluates the interrelationship of system safety requirements and other aspects of concept design and development requirements to ensure the most cost-effective program.Required Education, Experience, & SkillsMust have an active U.S. Government Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope.Educational background in Safety Engineering, or related field from an accredited university, and at least 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor of Science; OR at least 3 Years of relevant experience with a master's degree; OR 1 Year with a PhD degree.4 additional years of experience in lieu of a degree.Familiarity with safety requirements compliance with MIL-STD-1472H, AFMAN standards for program executionDemonstrated ability in the application of MIL-STD-882E to analyze, recommend, and drive safety into system design, equipment and procedures to mitigate or eliminate hazardsExperience documenting hazards with a closed-loop Hazard Tracking System (HTS)Ability to apply system safety engineering principles to develop safety documentation in accordance with MIL-STD-882E, e.g., SSPP, SAR, and Software Safety AnalysesFamiliarity with requirements development, system/software architecture, hardware/software design, software code implementation, test, verification and validationDemonstrated ability to develop, review, update and approve system safety artifacts and system safety requirementsAbility to effectively communicate with all levels of leadership and customers and work independentlyCross-IPT CollaborationExpertise with MS Office tool suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)Willingness to travel 10% of the time for business needsStandard work schedule is a 9/80 fully onsitePay Information Full-Time Salary Range: $107359 - $182510 Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
