Computed Tomography Technologist

We are seeking experienced Computed Tomography Technologists to provide diagnostic imaging services to Veterans through a long-term Veterans Affairs (VA) contract within the VA Portland Health Care System.

This is a full-time, on-site position supporting routine, urgent, preoperative, angiographic, and interventional CT services. The technologist will perform advanced CT examinations, administer contrast media within authorized practice, optimize image quality and radiation dose, document studies accurately, and collaborate with radiologists and multidisciplinary VA healthcare teams.

Position Details

• Work Setting: On-site VA diagnostic imaging services

  • Pay: $51-52 hourly (1099)

• Biweekly Minimum: 80 hours every two weeks, excluding holidays
• Schedule: 8-, 9-, or 10-hour shifts established by the VA supervisor
• Weekend and Holiday Coverage: Rotating coverage may be required
• Overtime: Occasional overtime may be required based on patient-care needs
• Call: No CT on-call requirement is specified in the solicitation
• Patient Population: Veterans receiving diagnostic and interventional imaging services
• Locations: VA facilities in Portland, OR and Vancouver, WA; final worksite assignment and any additional listed location will be confirmed
• Base Contract Period: January 4, 2027 through January 3, 2028
• Potential Contract Term: Four additional one-year option periods

  The solicitation lists multiple VA facilities but does not establish a routine rotation schedule or guarantee a permanent single-site assignment. Final site assignment and any travel between facilities will be confirmed before placement.

Clinical Responsibilities

The Computed Tomography Technologist will provide diagnostic imaging services consistent with VA policies, professional standards, and demonstrated competency, including:

• Perform CT examinations of the head, neck, chest, abdomen, pelvis, and extremities.
• Produce multiplanar reformats, 3D reconstructions, and angiographic studies according to established protocols and clinical indications.
• Complete stat, preoperative, urgent, and routine studies while appropriately prioritizing patient-care needs.
• Review imaging orders and relevant clinical information before beginning each examination.
• Register, complete, cancel, or edit examinations accurately in applicable VA clinical and imaging systems.
• Prepare and administer contrast media under appropriate clinical direction and within authorized scope of practice.
• Establish intravenous access and maintain venipuncture competency for contrast-enhanced examinations.
• Monitor patients for contrast reactions and initiate the appropriate clinical response when needed.
• Apply radiation-safety and CT dose-optimization practices while preserving diagnostic image quality.
• Record radiation-dose information and document repeat or rejected images as required.
• Support CT-guided interventional procedures including biopsies, radiofrequency ablations, abscess drainage, cyst aspiration, and CT myelography.
• Perform CT angiography including Circle of Willis, carotid, abdominal aorta, and runoff examinations.
• Perform cardiac CT examinations when appropriately trained, competent, and authorized.
• Use sterile technique and infection-control practices when assisting radiologists and other providers during procedures.
• Adapt imaging procedures to the patient's condition, body habitus, mobility, and clinical needs through sound independent judgment.
• Maintain accurate patient identification, exam records, and PACS documentation throughout the imaging workflow.
• Perform routine equipment and safety checks and promptly report or escalate equipment concerns.
• Provide related diagnostic imaging support including portable radiography, fluoroscopy, angiography, operating-room imaging, or other assigned duties within demonstrated competency.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with VA privacy, security, safety, infection-control, and clinical policies.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates must meet the following requirements:

• At least two years of experience with advanced CT applications.
• Current ARRT certification in Radiography and Computed Tomography, R.T.(R)(CT) , or credentials accepted by the VA for the assigned duties.
• Hold or obtain the applicable Oregon and/or Washington radiologic technologist credential required for each assigned work location.
• Maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification at onboarding and renew it at least every two years.
• Demonstrate knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology, and disease-related changes that affect imaging procedures.
• Operate a broad range of imaging equipment and consistently produce diagnostic-quality studies.
• Possess sufficient credentials to complete VA clinical review and credential verification requirements.
• Successfully complete applicable VA background investigation, security, privacy, and information-system access requirements.
• Meet applicable legal employment authorization and E-Verify requirements.
• Must not be excluded from participation in Federal healthcare programs.

Schedule and Availability

The VA supervisor may schedule 8-, 9-, or 10-hour shifts , excluding meal periods. Nine-hour schedules generally rotate between four- and five-day workweeks, while 10-hour schedules generally follow a four-day workweek.

Rotating weekend and holiday coverage may be required , and occasional overtime may be necessary based on patient-care and operational needs.

The solicitation does not define a routine rotation schedule among the listed facilities. Candidates should be prepared for assignment at designated VA locations, with final site and travel expectations confirmed before placement.

Physical Requirements

The position requires the physical ability to perform unrestricted diagnostic imaging duties, including:

• Prolonged standing and walking throughout the assigned shift.
• Lifting and carrying approximately 50 to 100 pounds.
• Assisting with patient positioning, movement, and transfers.
• Pushing or pulling imaging equipment, stretchers, and wheelchairs.
• Reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and using the manual dexterity necessary to operate imaging equipment safely.

Compliance and Onboarding Requirements

Selected candidates must complete and maintain all contract and VA onboarding requirements, which may include:

• Primary-source verification of professional licenses and certifications.
• VA clinical review and approval before beginning patient-care duties.
• Background investigation and favorable adjudication for required facility and information-system access.
• OIG exclusion screening and other required Federal eligibility checks.
• VA privacy, information-security, infection-control, and bloodborne-pathogen training.
• Tuberculosis screening and required immunization or immunity documentation.
• Annual influenza compliance and applicable hepatitis B vaccination or testing requirements.
• Professional uniforms, identification, and ongoing maintenance of required credentials.

VA Support and Equipment

The VA provides the clinical environment, imaging systems, protocols, and facility resources necessary for assigned diagnostic imaging services. Technologists are expected to:

• Complete training on applicable VA electronic health record, scheduling, and imaging systems.
• Follow facility-specific CT protocols, safety procedures, and quality-management requirements.
• Coordinate with radiologists, nursing personnel, transport staff, and other members of the healthcare team.
• Use VA-furnished imaging equipment and supplies responsibly and report operational concerns promptly.
