OPS REGISTERED NURSE - 1

Overview OPS Registered Nurse – PRN position in the Medical Services Program of the Department of Health. The nurse provides direct nursing care in Immunization, Family Planning, STD, and primary‑care clinics across the five health department clinic sites in Pinellas County. As a PRN role, hours are variable and not guaranteed. Responsibilities Provide direct services to clients, including immunizations, medication administration, pregnancy testing, tuberculosis testing, and other nursing services within scope of practice. Offer education on family planning methods and related services. Counsel clients on health promotion, risk behaviors, communicable disease control, maternal and child health, nutrition, growth and development, safety, and anticipatory guidance. Advise and counsel clients on STD and HIV risk reduction and disease management. Assist nursing supervisor with clinic management, monitoring clinic flow, and caseloads. Respond promptly to emergency situations within the building. Complete assignments and function independently. Follow policies and procedures, including standing orders. Meet productivity expectations for the position. Assist examiners as needed. Review electronic laboratory results, provide follow‑up, and manage cases. Document observations and actions accurately using the electronic record and the Florida Shots Registry. Comply with HIPAA guidelines and the Florida Department of Health’s Information Security Policy, ensuring client information is secure. Perform other duties as required. Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required and meet annual training requirements. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Prioritize responsibilities effectively. Establish and maintain effective working relationships. Use a personal computer proficiently. Understand patient confidentiality laws. Use multiple computer programs such as Microsoft Office for data retrieval and entry. Employ independent problem‑solving skills. Communicate clearly in verbal and written form; listen attentively. Qualifications Minimum Current valid Florida driver’s license or ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment. Current active Florida nursing license or a multistate license from another compact state, as required by the Florida Nurse Practice Act. Access to private transportation and willingness to travel to other clinic sites as needed. Willingness to travel and work at all Health Department clinic sites as required. Preferred At least one year of experience as a Registered Nurse. At least one year of experience in a public‑health environment.
