Admissions Counselor

Job Summary As part of the Enrollment Management division, and reporting to the Assistant Director of Recruitment and Admissions, the Admissions Counselor role serves as a key member of the team focused on supporting the recruitment goals of the University. The scope of recruitment is typically within Southeast, Michigan for our regional public institution. Responsibilities include building awareness of the UM-Dearborn brand, conveying the sense of Michigan Excellence and Community, and counseling prospective students to get them into the admissions funnel. This position also works with students after admission through the admissions and enrollment process, primarily with first‑year students, while coordinating with the transfer team. Responsibilities Recruitment for FTIAC Students (40%) Plan, coordinate, and participate in campus‑wide outreach projects and activities, including visits to local high schools and community organizations. Establish relationships with high‑school counselors to strengthen enrollment pipelines. Prepare detailed assessments and reports on engagement activities and support strategic pipeline plans. Make formal public presentations and serve as an official representative of the University at various recruitment visits and events (in‑person and virtual). Student Liaison after Application (40%) Use a territory management model for strategic enrollment initiatives. Maintain prospective student records in the customer‑relationship‑management software, tracking outreach and following up with students. Conduct virtual recruitment presentations and appointments via Zoom and other platforms. Counsel potential students on admission processes, policies, and financial aid concepts. Connect prospective students and parents with other college resources. Assist in phone call campaigns for applied and admitted students. Application Review (10%) Review undergraduate applications and materials to make decisions using established University criteria. Other Enrollment Activities (10%) Represent the university to internal and external constituencies, cultivating relationships with key influencers. Provide assistance with calling campaigns, administrative work, and office coverage during off‑peak times. Use Salesforce and Banner effectively. Assist with internal prospective student events such as orientation and open houses. Perform other duties or projects as assigned. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Self‑motivated, goal‑driven, and experienced in teamwork. Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Experience working with multicultural or underrepresented populations. Strong time‑management skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks. Ability to travel and work occasional evenings and weekends. Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds. Required Experience 1 to 3 years of experience in student services functions. Desired Qualifications College admissions experience. Basic understanding of FAFSA and financial aid. Knowledge of Metro‑Detroit/Michigan communities. Experience developing and implementing recruitment plans and strategies. Benefits Generous time off.
