General Production Worker - Off Shift
This role focuses on processing steel alloy products by receiving incoming material, repurposing it through various cutting and finishing operations, and preparing it for shipment. You will train across multiple production areas, operate material handling equipment such as forklifts and overhead cranes, and work with precision measuring tools to ensure accurate cuts and quality output. The position requires flexibility to train on day shift and then work either second or third shift in a clean, safety-focused, and modern manufacturing facility.
Responsibilities
- Receive incoming steel materials and prepare them for processing according to production requirements.
- Work in various areas of the facility, including laser cutting, water jet cutting, grinding, saw cutting, band saws, shears, shipping, and receiving.
- Remove steel from storage racks and place material onto machines using overhead suction cups, cranes, and other lifting devices.
- Operate cutting equipment to cut materials to specified measurements and tolerances.
- Use precision measuring tools and a tape measure down to 1/16 of an inch to verify dimensions and ensure accuracy.
- Move materials throughout the facility using forklifts and overhead cranes in a safe and efficient manner.
- Build custom pallets in the packaging and shipping areas to secure products for transport.
- Prepare cut material for shipment by packaging, labeling, and staging orders according to shipping requirements.
- Load and unload trucks at receiving docks using appropriate material handling equipment.
- Push, pull, lift, and move materials weighing up to 75 pounds on a consistent basis.
- Learn and rotate through multiple production areas as needed, allowing the company to place you where your skills are the best fit.
- Follow all safety procedures, use required personal protective equipment, and maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Participate in training on first shift and transition to second or third shift upon completion of training.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production goals and resolve issues that arise during operations.
Essential Skills
- Ability to use a tape measure accurately down to 1/16 of an inch.
- Ability to convert fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions; willingness to complete short math tests during the hiring process.
- Capability to lift, push, pull, and move up to 75 pounds on a consistent basis.
- Willingness to train on day shift and then work second and/or third shift as required.
- Comfort working in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Motivated, determined, and eager to learn and grow within a production role.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to learn operation of production machinery and material handling equipment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Manufacturing, construction, or other skilled trade experience preferred.
- Experience working with steel or metal processing is a strong plus.
- Previous experience as a water jet or laser operator is highly desirable.
- Forklift operating experience is preferred.
- Experience using overhead cranes to move materials is a plus.
- Prior use of micrometers, calipers, and gauges is beneficial.
- Openness to candidates coming directly from school who are highly motivated and eager to develop their skills.

Work Environment
You will work in a midsize alloy facility that specializes in heat-resistant and corrosion-resistant metal material supply. The site employs approximately 70–80 people and serves as the largest corporate location, operating in a brand-new building that is extremely clean, well lit, spacious, and strongly focused on safety. The operation runs three shifts: 7:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m.–11:00 p.m., and 11:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m., with current needs primarily on second and third shift and training conducted on first shift for a period that may range from a few weeks to a couple of months depending on your progress. You will work around laser cutting machines, water jet cutting equipment, saws, band saws, shears, and various material handling systems including forklifts, overhead cranes, and overhead suction cup lifters. Required personal protective equipment includes a hard hat, steel-toe footwear (with metatarsal protection required over time), arm guards, and ear protection in designated areas. Until uniforms are issued, you may wear jeans and t‑shirts, and the company provides a t‑shirt upon hire; once you convert to direct employment, uniforms are provided and laundered for you at no cost. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Maumee, OH.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $22.00/hr.
