Respiratory Therapist

The Respiratory Therapist administers respiratory care under the prescription of a physician. Responsibilities include the diagnostic evaluation, management, education, and rehabilitation of patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system. The practice involves the application of technology and the use of treatment protocols across various care sites. Key tasks include monitoring medical gases and environmental control systems, providing mechanical ventilatory support, and performing artificial airway care. The role also encompasses bronchopulmonary hygiene, administering pharmacological agents related to respiratory care procedures, and participating in cardiopulmonary rehabilitation. Additionally, hemodynamic cardiovascular support is an important aspect of this position. Experience with stabilizing neonates is necessary, as the team occasionally ventilates until transport arrives.
