Director of Luxury Handbags Department

The client seeks a Director for a Luxury Handbags Department to source, authenticate, and negotiate the acquisition of pre-owned luxury handbags in pristine condition. In this role, you will manage sales through live auctions, online auctions, and exclusive retail corners, combining strong merchandising judgment with auction and inventory management capabilities. Core responsibilities include obtaining consignments and purchasing inventory, supervising condition vetting and authentication, and creating or proofreading descriptions for catalogs, essays, and advertising copy. You will market consignments to valued clients, oversee multiple signature auctions and weekly online auctions, manage a team of employees, negotiate client terms, and review settlements. You will also procure and manage significant inventory, maintain an online boutique, and fulfill inventory needs for department store corners and trunk shows across multiple locations. The ideal candidate is experienced in authenticating and pricing rare handbags from prestigious luxury brands and has the business sense to buy well and sell effectively. Requirements include an appropriate business or marketing education, with an advanced degree as a plus, and relevant experience as a luxury handbags trader or otherwise strong experience in luxury goods. Additional expectations include strong negotiation skills and proficiency with common Microsoft Office tools, with prior experience and prior titles in luxury retail or brand operations being appreciated.
