Registered Nurse - Dedicated Education Unit

Overview Dedicated Education Unit (DEU) in Department 2 East fostering a clinical teaching/learning collaboration among nurses, healthcare team members, management, and faculty. The RN in a DEU is responsible for the delivery of patient care for assigned patients on a specific shift, coordinating the nursing plan of care, and carrying out physician orders and nursing standards of care using the nursing process. The RN in a DEU also precepts, educates, and mentors new team members based on standardized competency expectations, while elevating nursing practice through professionalism and engagement in nursing initiatives and advanced learning. This is a night shift position and is from 7pm-7am. Responsibilities Deliver patient care for assigned patients on the night shift. Coordinate the nursing plan of care and carry out physician orders and nursing standards of care using the nursing process. Direct and guide other members of the patient care team. Precept, educate, and mentor new team members based on standardized competency expectations. Elevate nursing practice by demonstrating professionalism and engagement in nursing initiatives and advanced learning. Requirements Current and valid Registered Nurse license in the Commonwealth of Virginia or in a state that is part of a Compact agreement with Virginia. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. CPR – BLS. Preferred Qualifications Master's Degree in Nursing. Med-surg Certification. Nursing Professional Development (NPD) – Board Certified. Skills Unit and annual competencies to be completed each year. HIPAA – no breaches of confidentiality. No related complaints voiced on patient satisfaction surveys. No related complaints voiced by fellow care providers of observed incidences. Knowledge of location and content of departmental policies and procedures. Nurse Practice Act – Scope of Practice. Basic computer skills. National Patient Safety Goals.
