University Senior Advisor to the Executive Vice Chancellor and COO

POSITION DETAILS Reports to the Executive Vice Chancellor and Chief Operating Officer (EVC and COO). The Senior Advisor leads strategic initiatives, identifies challenges, and implements solutions across the University in collaboration with senior administration at the Central Office and campus leadership. As a member of the EVC’s senior executive team, the Senior Advisor supports broad functional objectives, manages highly sensitive, complex projects on behalf of the EVC, and fosters communication and knowledge sharing organization-wide. The role ensures ongoing monitoring and alignment between mission, vision, values, strategy, structure, and University culture. Key Responsibilities Collaborates with the EVC and Central Office executives to develop, implement, and enhance strategic initiatives and innovation. Initiates, plans, and manages complex, large‑scale projects across functional areas. Develops a project management structure. Acts as the lead from the EVC’s office for major real‑estate projects and initiatives. Understands and supports the EVC’s vision and leadership; effectively articulates these to staff and university executives. Builds productive relationships with senior administration and external partners; serves as a liaison on matters related to Budget & Finance, Facilities Planning, Construction & Management, Computing & Information Services, and AI in Operations. Oversees execution of high‑priority, cross‑functional operations and projects; communicates priorities to internal and external constituencies. Serves as subject‑matter expert, handles inquiries, develops action plans, and administers new policies or revises current policies in collaboration with senior executives. Assesses inquiries directed to the EVC, determines appropriate action, and delegates as needed. Represents the EVC to university and external groups and committees. Researches issues, prepares and presents reports, briefings, presentations, and responses on policy, project, and strategic issues. Reviews Research Foundation or other entities for fundraising and corporate ventures. Enhances and develops policies and procedures that improve overall operations and service effectiveness. Performs related duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and eight (8) years of related experience. The position is in CUNY’s Executive Compensation Plan. Preferred Progressively responsible experience supporting executive leadership in a higher education nonprofit or complex public institution. Proven track record of working collaboratively with Senior Management Teams. Strong work ethic, integrity, and professionalism with confidentiality and discretion. Demonstrated collaborative, relationship‑building, and interpersonal skills with a wide variety of stakeholders in a multi‑constituency environment. Proactive, detail‑oriented, and highly organized; able to manage a large and varied workload with conflicting priorities and meet deadlines. Ability to work productively as an individual contributor and as part of a fast‑paced, customer‑responsive team. Experience with high‑level negotiations and strategic communications. Demonstrated knowledge of higher education principles, practices, and procedures. Ability to embrace the university’s culture and values and articulate its mission and aspirations. Familiarity with New York State and City politics and priorities, strong interpersonal skills, and a track record of successful collaboration. Ability and availability to travel across New York City and work evening hours as needed. Compensation & Benefits The salary range is $185,000 - $200,000 , commensurate with credentials, education, and experience.
