Assistant Coach, Kilometer Kids

Reporting to the Wellness Program Manager and working under the direction of a Head Coach, the Kilometer Kids Assistant Coach supports the delivery of Kilometer Kids, Atlanta Track Club’s free, game-based youth running program. Assistant Coaches help facilitate engaging, inclusive practices for elementary-aged participants at school- and community-based sites. This role is ideal for individuals interested in youth development, physical activity, health education, or community engagement who enjoy working directly with children in an active, supportive environment. Kilometer Kids is Atlanta Track Club’s flagship free youth running program. The non-competitive, game-based curriculum is designed to help children in grades K–5 build confidence, learn goal-setting skills, develop healthy habits, and experience the joy of movement. Over the course of the season, participants work toward a collective goal of completing 26.2 miles by attending two practices per week. Responsibilities Support the facilitation of twice-weekly Kids practices (60 minutes each) using the provided curriculum and activity plans. Assist the Head Coach with organizing and leading warm-ups, games, running activities, and cool-downs. Provide positive encouragement and supervision to participants during practices. Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all children. Support participant attendance tracking and mileage recording during practices. Assist with setup and breakdown of equipment and program supplies at each practice. Communicate professionally with Head Coaches, site staff, parents, and Program staff as needed. Uphold Atlanta Track Club and Kilometer Kids policies, safety protocols, and child protection guidelines. Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating sportsmanship, kindness, and enthusiasm for physical activity. Requirements Interest in physical activity, running, health, or wellness. Ability to effectively engage and communicate with children ages 4–14. Ability to work as part of a team and take directions from a Head Coach. Ability to manage groups of children in an active outdoor environment. Willingness to complete required background check, training, and compliance requirements prior to the season. Availability to work two weekday evenings per week during the 10-week season. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and stand or move for extended periods of time. Time Commitment Season Dates: September 8th- November 19th, 2026 Practice Schedule: Tuesday & Thursday, 4:30 pm-5:30 pm Location: Southside of Atlanta Approximately 5 hours per week for the duration of the season, including practices, communication, and occasional meetings. Additional hours are required prior to the start of the season for orientation and pre-season preparation. Compensation This is a stipend-based position.
