Job Summary and Purpose The Counselor AOD II - MC is responsible for providing alcohol and drug treatment services to clients and their families, engaging in treatment plan processes with therapists and case managers, and maintaining clinical documentation to support whole‑person care. This position reports to the Program Manager and the Clinical Director, who supervise duties and performance. Duties and Responsibilities As part of a multi‑disciplinary case management team, performs primary alcohol and drug counseling functions including screening, assessment, and intake: Provides one‑on‑one mentoring and support to clients Teaches clients independent living and problem‑solving skills, developing plans to promote healthy lifestyles Advocates for clients before outside social service and legal organizations Collaborates with Case Manager and therapist to ensure linkages to support services for medical, mental health, housing, and education needs are delivered Conducts crisis intervention Leads or coordinates group, individual, and educational sessions Co‑ordinates treatment services with multidisciplinary team Conducts discharge and transition planning; drafts discharge summaries Meets regularly with supervisor and multidisciplinary team to ensure implementation of treatment protocols, and client success in case plans. Attends supervisory, shift‑exchange, case conferences, staff meetings, and other team meetings Maintains timely and accurate records, both paper and electronic health records, documenting all treatments and client progress. Monitors medication self‑administration and collects drug screens as required Ensures privacy under HIPAA, state and federal law, and SCADP policy Prepares reports as required by funders Adheres to professional standards of care and conduct, licensure/certification requirements, and ongoing education and training. Provides transportation for program participants to appointments and events as needed. Assists with program and outreach events. Participates in hotline coverage per training and procedure. Performs other duties to support VOALA mission. Essential Duties Services provided on‑site; requires on‑site attendance daily. Screening and assessment: perform intake, orientation, and admissions, screen for ASAM criteria. Treatment and counseling: deliver trauma‑informed, evidence‑based treatment; provide individual, group, and family counseling; advocate to agencies. Coordination: respond to client crises, coordinate treatment with team, conduct discharge planning, draft summaries. Record‑keeping: maintain timely, accurate documentation in EHR and client files, ensuring HIPAA confidentiality. Professional development: attend supervision, staff meetings, case conferences, training; perform required education. Other duties as required and subject to change. Qualifications Requirements Must pass fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history and verification of references, employment, and education. Ability to work under emotional stress and handle difficult, uncooperative, or aggressive clients. Education Alcohol and Drug Counseling Certification from an approved accrediting organization (CCAPP, CADTP, or CADEE). Experience Minimum of three years’ experience providing SUD treatment services to the target population.
