Company Description The Erie Metropolitan Housing Authority (EMHA) serves as the affordable housing agent of choice for low- and moderate-income residents of Erie County, Ohio, supporting individuals and families in becoming more self-sufficient. EMHA is a political subdivision of the State of Ohio, overseen by a five-member Board of Commissioners appointed by local elected officials. The organization administers subsidized housing primarily through funding from the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development. EMHA currently manages 227 public housing units, 1,218 Housing Choice Vouchers, and 29 elderly units, along with a voluntary Family Self Sufficiency Program and a Homeownership Option within the voucher program. Team members contribute directly to the quality, safety, and reliability of housing services in the community. Role Description The Maintenance Mechanic II is a full-time, on-site role located in Sandusky, OH, responsible for maintaining EMHA properties and ensuring that housing units and facilities are safe, functional, and in good repair. Day-to-day tasks include performing routine and emergency maintenance, diagnosing mechanical and building system issues, and completing repairs on equipment, fixtures, and building components such as plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and structural elements. The role involves conducting preventive maintenance inspections, documenting work performed, and prioritizing tasks based on safety and urgency. The Maintenance Mechanic II also collaborates with supervisors, colleagues, and residents to schedule work, respond to service requests, and adhere to applicable housing standards, codes, and safety regulations. Qualifications Candidates should possess strong skills in equipment maintenance and industrial maintenance to support a variety of building systems and mechanical components. Candidates should possess skills in corrective maintenance and maintenance & repair to diagnose issues, perform repairs, and restore equipment and facilities to proper working condition. Candidates should possess skills in preventive maintenance to conduct regular inspections, perform scheduled servicing, and reduce equipment downtime. Relevant skills such as basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC troubleshooting are beneficial. Ability to read and follow work orders, technical manuals, and safety procedures, with strong attention to detail and time management. Physical ability to perform maintenance tasks, including lifting, bending, and working in various indoor and outdoor conditions. Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record, with the ability to travel between EMHA properties as needed.
