Radiation Oncology

$828 - $993 weekly margin

Challenges: Small candidate pool. We can pull from surrounding states (VA and DE) so long as they have an active and clear RN license. MD, VA and DE are all compact states!

• We previously had this position opened with them at a lower pay rate and chemo/onco certification required.

Reason for Opening: They had someone resign. She was the only RN in the office. They need her replaced ASAP.



Length: This position is currently open on their internal team and they are still actively recruiting. They are looking to bring someone on temp to perm.



Located at: White Oak Cancer Center - 11886 Healing Way, Suite 101, Silver Spring, MD 20904



Pay: $45/hr - $54/hr (the higher end is reserved for someone with radiation and onco experience)
Schedule : Mon-Fri, start ~7:30-8:00 a.m., end ~4-5 p.m. (depends on patient load)



Minimum Requirements

• Active, clear MD RN license
• 6+ months radiation or oncology experience so they can jump in with limited training
  • If you find a tenured nurse (5+ years) with great tenure and wanting to work in this type of environment, they said they would interview because sometimes finding the empathetic personality for these patients is harder than the job itself. They can teach the chemo/onco part.
• CPR or BLS
• Ability to lift 40 lbs unassisted

Preferred:

• ONS or ONC certification
• Infusion and chemotherapy experience
• Radiation is HIGHLY preferred but not required - they know this candidate pool is very limited.
• Bilingual Eng/Span - they do have a good amount of Spanish speaking patients

Job Summary:


Under general supervision, provides professional nursing care for patients adhering to national and company standards and guidelines for specialty regulations. Demonstrates knowledge of physiological, psychological, and developmental and age specific differences in the patient population including late adolescence, adulthood, middle age, and the elderly. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to provide for assessment and therapeutic management of patient/family needs. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.



Duties / Responsibilities:

• Demonstrates knowledge of age specific differences in the patient population including physiological and developmental differences unique to each group.
• Assess and monitors therapy of patients using appropriate technical skills under the direction and supervision of a physician.
• Assists physician with exams and procedures.
• Maintains efficient and appropriate patient flow.
• Demonstrates knowledge of reimbursement procedures and charge capture.
• Performs venipuncture, accesses implanted ports and maintains central venous access devices and alternate delivering systems.
• Documents all elements of care.
• Communicates all pertinent information and any interventions to the physician or mid level provider.
• Serves as a resource person to the medical assistants and LPNs.
• Triages patient/family phone calls as needed and documents relevant information in the patient's chart.
• Assesses patient/family needs and provides teaching.
• Demonstrates awareness of community resources available to patients and assists with referrals if necessary.
• Provides nursing coverage for the satellite offices as needed.
• Follows OSHA guidelines when handling cytotoxic agents, biohazardous waste and any other material potentially infected with a blood borne pathogen.
• Maintains current knowledge of oncology nursing by participating in ongoing educational opportunities.
• Participates in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations. Maintains patient confidentiality.

Dresscode : Scrubs: Any color, any pattern - they want their patients to feel like they are in a light environment which is why they do not require solid color matching scrubs. NO CROCS, closed toed shoes only since they are handling hazardous materials



Training : It is really difficult for them to provide training for a new grad. However, for someone that has some oncology/chemo/infusion experience, they will have them onsite with the Clinic Manager as well as with a preceptor for about a week, depending on how much training/processes is needed.
