Facility Information Address: 301 Yadkin St, Albemarle, NC 28001 Licensed Beds: 109 Trauma Designation: None Teaching Hospital: No residents or students Certification: Advanced Primary Stroke Center Unit Information Beds: 10 ICU beds and 4 PCU beds (PCU used only during surge capacity) Average Census: 7.3 patients per day Minimum Experience Required: 18 months to 2 years of ICU RN experience First-Time Travelers: Accepted Patient Types and Common Diagnoses Sepsis COPD CHF Chest Pain MI, NSTEMI Stroke, TIA New onset cardiac arrhythmia Uncontrolled diabetes mellitus and DKA Minor trauma Alcohol withdrawal ARDS Respiratory illnesses including Flu and COVID-19 Patient Ratios RN: 1:2-3 depending on acuity; often assigned 3 patients Could include a mix of ICU and Med/Tele patients CNA: Not available overnight; 1:10 ratio during dayshift only Licenses and Certifications Required BLS ACLS NIHSS Required Skills Stroke experience and NIH assessments Cardiac rhythm interpretation Management of arterial lines and central venous pressure lines Experience with critical care drips Chest tube care Peripheral IV starts TNK administration (if not given in ED) Ventilator management (settings managed by RT) Tracheostomy care Nasogastric tube placement Drain and tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, Foley insertion and management) PCA pump management Wound care Ability to perform 12-lead EKGs including STATs Medication drip management including: critical care drips (titration), cardiac drips (titration), heparin, blood products, and IV fluids Departmental Support House Supervisor CNA support during dayshift only Charge nurse included in staffing Phlebotomy services available IV/VAT team available on dayshift Respiratory Therapy available 24/7 Hospitalist coverage 24/7 First call for intubation; if hospitalist cannot intubate, CRNA is called; ED is third line for intubation Intensivist physician rounds Monday through Friday around 6am (night RN provides report) For urgent situations, Virtual Critical Care (VCC) is contacted overnight Bedside and central telemetry monitoring performed by RNs on the unit Technology and Equipment Electronic Medical Record: EPIC IV Pumps: Alaris Medication Dispensing: Omnicell Monitors: Phillips Floating Information Floating is required within the region and scope of practice. Locations include: Med/Tele units (1:4 ratio) ICU PCU (if open) ED holds (may be task RN or ICU/Med-Tele holds) Behavioral Health unit (medication pass and charting only) Regional Floating: Required to float to facilities within the region as needed, including multiple hospitals in the area. If floating mid-shift, travel time between facilities will be paid and remain on the clock. Candidates not agreeable to floating should decline.
