Interior Mechanic – Grand Junction, CO What you can expect as an Interior Finish Technician at West Star: As an Interior Finish technician you will be responsible for interior finish processes, including wood finishes of assigned aircraft, varying amounts of gloss and satin applications, and sanding of hardwood as needed to apply finish. Development and completion of aircraft interior cabinet finishes are the primary functions. Job duties will vary by type and scope, as designated by the Finish Team Leader.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Assist with paint and techniques for major modification projects Identify colors and color matches as needed Basic knowledge of stains, lacquers, clear coats, etc. Basic knowledge in chemicals (thinners, catalysts, cleaners, etc.) and safety procedures. Basic knowledge in paints and spraying equipment Knowledge of dry sanding and wet sanding, etc. Maintenance and repair of shop facility, equipment and tooling Basic computer skills to be able to navigate electronic training, manuals, and maintenance data bases Cleanliness of shop and surroundings Work independently when required Effectively and clearly communicate (i.e., speak, write, read) in English Any other job‑related duties as assigned by supervisor or management. Education A high school diploma or equivalent. A valid driver's license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport is ideal, but not required. Experience Technician I: 0-2 years’ experience in auto re‑finish/collision repair or other similar trade dealing with the paint/finish processes. Technician II: 2-5 years’ experience in wood finishing processes on aircraft. Technician III: 5+ years’ experience in wood finishing processes on aircraft. Initiative We’re looking for team players who are self‑motivated and able to perform in a fast paced environment where working under specific deadlines and time constraints will be common. Sense of Responsibility Attend work every day as scheduled to include overtime and weekend assignments. Notify supervisor in advance of shift starting if unable to work. Must have reliable transportation to get to work each and every day. Perform all work in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration guidelines. Follow all company and safety rules during performance of duties. Maintain customer oriented work habits. Assist in major modification work as needed. Other particulars Physical Requirements Lifts 50 lbs. Routine walking, bending and squatting or sitting. Routine or repetitive physical motion with arms and hands with emphasis on grasping, feeling and finger dexterity. Standing for long periods of time. Climb ladders and stairs, work in small restricted areas. Pass a respirator fit test. Mental Requirements Understanding and implementation of regulations and guidelines including but not limited to OSHA, Hazmat, etc. Work with others in a professional manner. Read and comprehend various documents. Plan and organize procedures and operations. Supervision Work under supervision of assigned Team Leader and Interior Management. May be directed to supervise other technicians in some capacity. Work with minimal supervision when required. Working Conditions The majority of work will be performed in a hangar or shop environment. Work outside on the ramp on occasion. Varied positions in and around the aircraft. Equipment Used Personal hand tools supplied by the mechanic. Electrical power tools such as sanders, saws, power drills, etc. Spray booth and all related equipment.
