Machinist

This role involves setting up and operating a wide range of manual and CNC machining equipment in an FAA-regulated aerospace repair and overhaul environment. You will work primarily on aerospace components made from high-performance alloys, holding extremely tight tolerances while adhering to rigorous quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate various shop equipment, including vertical turning lathes (VTLs), manual lathes, CNC lathes, manual mills, CNC mills, surface grinders, O.D./I.D. grinders, boring mills, and related machinery.
• Perform manual machining operations with a strong emphasis on precision and craftsmanship, favoring manual machining over CNC when appropriate.
• Program and operate CNC equipment, including Grob 5-axis machines and Hurco horizontal mills, using controls such as Fanuc where applicable.
• Interpret and work from blueprints, engineering drawings, and written instructions to produce parts that meet exact specifications.
• Machine aerospace components made from alloys such as Inconel 718, Inconel 625, titanium, and other high-performance materials.
• Hold close tolerances of 0.0005 inch or less and verify dimensional accuracy using micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring tools.
• Set up and change over machinery efficiently to accommodate different jobs, tooling requirements, and production runs.
• Use quality tools and gauges, including micrometers, calipers, and tools related to rake angle and helix, to ensure consistent quality and compliance with specifications.
• Perform grinding, drilling, deburring, and other secondary operations as needed to complete components to required standards.
• Follow AS9100 and other applicable aerospace quality standards in all machining and inspection activities.
• Understand and follow verbal and written instructions in English to complete tasks safely and accurately.
• Work as a motivated self-starter, managing tasks with minimal supervision while maintaining high productivity and quality.
• Maintain an excellent attendance record and support production needs by working overtime, including weekends, when required.
• Participate in ongoing FAA-mandated testing and training to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Support the operations of an FAA 145 Repair and Overhaul station that services aerospace engines used in military aircraft.
• Adhere to all safety policies and procedures in a safety-sensitive manufacturing environment, including compliance with drug and alcohol testing requirements.

Essential Skills

• At least 3 years of experience in CNC and manual machining.
• Proficiency in setting up and changing over machinery, including VTLs, manual lathes, and manual mills.
• Experience operating Grob 5-axis machines and Hurco horizontal CNC mills.
• Strong manual machining skills, with manual machining favored over CNC machining for this role.
• Ability to hold close tolerances of 0.0005 inch or less on machined components.
• Familiarity with aerospace alloys such as Inconel 718, Inconel 625, titanium, and similar materials.
• Proficiency with precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, calipers, and other quality tools related to rake angle and helix.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
• Capability to understand and follow verbal and written directions in English.
• Motivated self-starter who can work effectively with minimal direction.
• Commitment to maintaining excellent attendance and reliability.
• Willingness and ability to work overtime, including weekends, as needed to meet production demands.
• High school diploma or equivalent, with documentation required.
• Ability to meet ITAR definition of U.S. person, with documentation required.
• Willingness to participate in ongoing FAA testing and training as a condition of employment.
• Ability to work safely and effectively in a safety-sensitive manufacturing environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working in an FAA 145 Repair and Overhaul station or similar regulated aerospace environment.
• Familiarity with AS9100 quality standards and their application in machining and inspection processes.
• Experience with Fanuc controls and CNC programming for mills and lathes.
• Background in machining components for aerospace engines or similar high-precision applications.
• Comfort with grinding, drilling, deburring, and operating drill presses and other shop equipment.
• Experience working in a machine shop environment focused on aerospace and titanium components.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, repeatable results.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with team members in a production and repair setting.

Work Environment

This position is based in an FAA 145 Repair and Overhaul station that supports a major engine overhaul program for military aircraft. The facility recently relocated to Fairfield, Ohio, and operates as a safety-sensitive manufacturing environment subject to strict regulatory and quality requirements. The day shift schedule runs Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with two openings available on this shift. You will work with a variety of manual and CNC equipment, including VTLs, lathes, mills, grinders, boring mills, drill presses, and advanced CNC machines such as Grob 5-axis and Hurco horizontal mills, often using Fanuc controls. The work focuses on machining aerospace components from high-performance alloys under AS9100 and FAA regulations. As part of an FAA 145 repair station, you must be willing to submit to random drug and alcohol testing and participate in ongoing FAA testing and training. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $38.00/hr.
