The daily tasks for this position include:

1. Deposit settlement checks for the office in which the Staff Accountant works.
2. Follow up on uncleared checks and assist in resolving outstanding items.
3. Prepare and post journal entries in accordance with firm procedures. Journal entries are subject to approval by the Director of Accounting.
4. Reconcile the firm's IOLTA bank accounts on a monthly basis. Submit completed reconciliations to the Director of Accounting for review and the Chief Operating Officer for approval.
5. Reconcile the firm's operating bank accounts on a monthly basis and submit completed reconciliations to the Director of Accounting for review.
6. Collect and attach receipts for operating account transactions and update expense account classifications as necessary.
7. Enter accounts payable invoices accurately and timely, ensuring transactions are properly coded to the appropriate general ledger accounts.
8. Prepare the operating account check run and supporting documentation for review and release by the Director of Accounting. *
9. Process operating account deposits for attorney fees and client cost reimbursements and ensure deposits are accurately recorded in the accounting system.
10. Reconcile firm credit card accounts, including reviewing transactions and supporting documentation and resolving discrepancies.
11. Process monthly uncollectable client costs in accordance with firm policies and procedures.
12. Prepare and file the firm's quarterly sales/use tax returns.
13. Maintain the firm's fixed asset list, including recording additions, disposals, and other changes as appropriate.
14. Assist the Director of Accounting with month-end and year-end accounting procedures as requested.
15. Provide backup assistance to other members of the Accounting Department as needed.
16. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Math Ability:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word; Microsoft Excel; QuickBooks; Microsoft Outlook, Lawbase Case Management software and NetDocs.

Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree (B. A. / B. S.) in business administration or equivalent from a college or university; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
