Position Summary

The Kress embodies the culture, spirit, and traditions of downtown El Paso while offering a work environment focused on the overall employee experience. The Janitorial Porter is responsible for maintaining clean, safe, sanitary, and guest-ready spaces throughout Kress Food Market, including restrooms, common areas, tenant corridors, back-of-house areas, offices, and other assigned interior spaces.


This role supports the day-to-day presentation and cleanliness of the property through routine cleaning, sanitation, waste removal, floor care, supply restocking, and general upkeep. The ideal team member is dependable, detail-oriented, safety-minded, and comfortable working in an active food hall environment where cleanliness, professionalism, and consistency are essential.

Key Responsibilities

Cleaning, Sanitation & Daily Upkeep
• Perform daily cleaning and sanitation of restrooms, including fixtures, mirrors, partitions, counters, floors, and high-touch surfaces
• Restock restroom and common-area supplies, including paper products, soap, sanitizer, liners, and other assigned materials
• Sweep, mop, scrub, vacuum, and spot-clean floors, mats, carpets, entryways, corridors, offices, and back-of-house areas according to assigned schedules
• Dust and wipe down surfaces, ledges, vents, fixtures, furniture, doors, railings, elevators, and other common-area touchpoints
• Wash interior glass, mirrors, partitions, and visible surfaces to maintain a clean and professional appearance

Floor Care, Waste Removal & Facility Presentation
• Empty trash and recycling receptacles in offices, common areas, restrooms, back-of-house spaces, and other assigned areas
• Transport waste, recycling, cardboard, and other discarded materials to designated disposal areas safely and efficiently
• Assist with floor care duties, including scrubbing, buffing, waxing, and maintaining floors as assigned or trained
• Maintain clean, orderly, and guest-ready public areas by addressing spills, debris, odors, and visible cleanliness concerns promptly
• Support post-event cleanup, periodic deep-cleaning projects, seasonal cleaning, and other facility presentation needs as assigned

Chemicals, Equipment & Safety
• Mix, label, store, and use cleaning chemicals safely and in accordance with manufacturer instructions, safety data sheets, and company procedures
• Operate and maintain janitorial equipment, including vacuums, floor scrubbers, buffers, extractors, carts, mop buckets, and related tools
• Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment, wet-floor signage, chemical handling, ladder safety, and hazard reporting
• Report needed repairs, damaged fixtures, supply shortages, spills, leaks, pest concerns, equipment issues, or unsafe conditions to management promptly
• Keep janitorial closets, supply carts, storage rooms, and assigned work areas clean, organized, stocked, and free of safety hazards

Guest, Tenant & Team Support
• Respond professionally and promptly to cleanliness needs, spills, restroom concerns, tenant requests, and management direction
• Communicate courteously with tenants, shoppers, vendors, coworkers, and management while maintaining a service-focused presence
• Coordinate with Facilities, Operations, and Kress management to support property cleanliness, event readiness, tenant operations, and guest experience
• Maintain reliable attendance, punctuality, and readiness to work assigned shifts
• Assist with general facility support tasks as needed to help Kress Food Market remain clean, safe, and operationally ready

Business Needs & Other Duties
• Adapt to changing business volume, tenant needs, event schedules, staffing levels, seasonal needs, and operational priorities
• Work early morning, daytime, evening, weekend, holiday, event, and flexible schedules based on business needs
• Assist with periodic inspections, cleaning checklists, supply tracking, and related documentation as directed
• Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and a positive team attitude while working in public-facing and back-of-house areas
• Perform other related duties as assigned to support Kress Food Market operations and guest experience

Qualifications

Education, Experience & Certifications
• High school diploma or GED preferred but not required
• Prior janitorial, custodial, housekeeping, facilities, commercial cleaning, retail, hospitality, or food hall experience preferred
• Working knowledge of cleaning chemicals, janitorial equipment, sanitation practices, and workplace safety procedures preferred
• Ability to follow cleaning schedules, checklists, safety instructions, and management direction with minimal supervision
• Ability to communicate courteously and professionally with tenants, shoppers, coworkers, vendors, and management
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and events based on business needs

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Knowledge of basic cleaning methods, sanitation practices, safety procedures, and proper chemical handling
• Ability to maintain clean, orderly, and well-stocked restrooms, common areas, offices, corridors, and back-of-house spaces
• Ability to operate janitorial tools and equipment safely after training
• Strong attention to detail, urgency, reliability, organization, and follow-through
• Ability to identify and report maintenance needs, safety hazards, cleanliness concerns, and supply shortages promptly
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, bend, kneel, squat, reach, climb stairs, push and pull carts or equipment, and perform repetitive cleaning tasks throughout the shift
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 75 pounds occasionally with assistance or proper equipment when needed

• Uses chemicals, equipment, and personal protective equipment safely and appropriately
• Communicates professionally with tenants, shoppers, coworkers, vendors, and management
• Keeps janitorial closets, carts, equipment, and storage areas organized and stocked
• Takes ownership of the behind-the-scenes work that helps Kress Food Market remain welcoming, sanitary, and operationally ready
