Laboratory Automation Systems Intern

Johnson & Johnson seeks a Laboratory Automation Systems Intern for a 10–12 week summer program (May–August 2027) at the Spring House, Pennsylvania campus. The intern will inventory and document laboratory automation systems, organize technical information, and explore Large Language Model applications to improve knowledge management across a campus-wide initiative.

Responsibilities

• Conduct laboratory walkthroughs to inventory automation systems, document components, software, locations, owners, and operational status
• Reconcile field observations with existing records and resolve missing, duplicate, or inconsistent information
• Collect, review, and organize technical documentation including manuals, configuration records, and integration notes
• Identify and define potential Large Language Model use cases for record classification, metadata extraction, and knowledge management
• Develop standardized automation system profiles and prepare final stakeholder presentation summarizing findings and recommendations

Requirements

• Completion of undergraduate freshman year; pursuing Bachelor's or Master's in Laboratory Automation, Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or related field
• Cumulative GPA 3.0 or higher across all college coursework
• Strong attention to detail with ability to organize, validate, and document technical information accurately
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams)
• Analytical and problem-solving skills with effective written and verbal communication
• Ability to collaborate with scientists, engineers, operations, and IT stakeholders
• Willingness to learn laboratory equipment, software, and scientific workflows; comfort in supervised lab environments
