Access Service Representative I

Overview The Access Service Representative I is responsible for capturing demographic and insurance information either by telephone or patient‑facing. The position requires using the eligibility application to verify insurance eligibility, interpret the response, and capture appropriate health insurance information as it pertains to the service being rendered. Responsibilities Accurate patient look‑up to ensure the correct patient is being registered. Discern demographic and insurance information to ensure accurate registration. Interpret information received from insurance payers regarding patient’s eligibility and financial responsibility. Discuss financial obligation of patient and collect via cash, credit card or check. Explain regulatory forms and answer patient questions; obtain signatures accordingly. Scan or manage online form templates to maintain the Electronic Health Record. Comprehend Federal, State, and third‑party payer regulations as they pertain to a hospital registration. Work in multiple systems during a telephone call or patient‑facing interaction to complete an accurate registration and support clinical workflow. Functional Competencies Social and emotional intelligence—ability to deal with a diverse population including critically injured, mentally disturbed, and belligerent patients. Patient‑centric – customer service orientation. Conflict management. Team‑oriented support. Adaptability to high‑stress situations. Excellent communication skills. Qualifications High School Diploma/G.E.D. required. 1–3 years applicable experience; customer service and strong computer skills required. Hospital or clinic office experience preferred. Remaining qualifications include: Proven customer service skill with the ability to exceed expectations. Ability to multi‑task in stressful and high‑patient‑volume environments. Ability to learn in a classroom setting; utilizing resources. Ability to remain composed under pressure. Ability to review information and draw appropriate conclusions. Good judgment and resourcefulness to problem‑solve; escalation as needed. Team‑minded with a strong work ethic. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted. Physical Demands Standing – occasionally; walking – occasionally; sitting – occasionally; constant talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
