Assistant/Associate Level Project Manager

About the opportunity SWCA Environmental Consultants is expanding its hydropower regulatory and licensing team and seeks an Assistant or Associate Project Manager. The role supports federal, state, and local environmental and hydropower projects—FERC jurisdictional projects, BORE, USACE reservoir projects, pumped storage, small hydroelectric conduits, storage reservoirs, decommissioning, and maintenance of project repairs, upgrades, and capital improvements. The position reports to the SaltLakeCity office and may be performed in a hybrid or remote work environment. Preferred candidates are located in the greater Salt City area, Rocky Mountain/Great Basin region, or Western USA. Job Levels AssistantProjectManager – typically 3years of relevant industry experience. AssociateProjectManager – typically 5years of relevant industry experience plus 2years of project management experience. What you will accomplish Lead or support multidisciplinary projects from start to finish, including survey and permitting activities for FERC and BOR‑jurisdictional hydropower projects and USACE hydropower and reservoir projects. Collaborate with technical editors, GIS specialists, resource leads, and project teams to develop content for licensing documents, environmental assessments, impact statements, implementation plans, technical studies, and other permitting documentation. Review technical reports for scientific and regulatory adequacy, completeness, organization, clarity, consistency, grammar, and conformity with SWCA or client style guidelines. Develop and organize project documents, scopes, plans, schedules and maintain project files using cloud‑based collaboration tools such as SharePoint, Box, and Smartsheet. Collaborate with Project Managers to manage and develop budgets, schedules and documents, adjusting as necessary to meet evolving needs. Participate in client and agency meetings and develop meeting materials, including agendas, notes, and presentations. Take initiative to resolve issues, monitor progress, and communicate risks to schedule, budget, safety, quality, and performance standards to Project Managers and leadership. Foster a positive, collaborative working environment among team members. Implement and administer SWCA’s safety procedures, scientific and professional ethics, and develop safety plans when applicable. Follow applicable federal, Tribal, state, local, and company regulations, standards, specifications, and other requirements as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in environmental planning, environmental science, biology, natural resource management, planning, geology, geography, history, law, or another science‑or‑policy related field. Three years of relevant industry experience, including hydropower or planning document preparation or project management for private industry, consulting, or developer projects; experience with state, federal, or Tribal agencies is desirable. Basic understanding of environmental regulations such as the Clean Water Act, National Environmental Policy Act, Federal Power Act, and National Historic Preservation Act. Familiarity with hydropower regulatory compliance, hydropower systems, or other water storage projects. Experience and ability to support or manage projects in diverse settings with changing requirements. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in a related field. At least five years of relevant industry experience, including two years managing complex multidisciplinary projects. Working knowledge of the environmental regulations listed above. Demonstrated experience with hydropower regulatory compliance, hydropower systems, or other water storage projects. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and emotional intelligence. Experience developing and managing project budgets and schedules. Benefits Salary range: $28.88–$36.75 per hour for Assistant Project Manager; $32.03–$40.95 per hour for Associate Project Manager.
