Group Fitness Instructor (part-time)

Incorporated in 1955 and encompassing more than 454 acres, the Mt. Prospect Park District provides outstanding recreational programs, events, parks, facilities and services. With seven primary facilities and 27 neighborhood parks, the Park District is an integral part of a thriving multi-generational community. District open space includes two outdoor pools, biking and walking paths, a dog park and sizable space for outdoor athletic programming. The District covers over 11 square miles and serves a region of over a quarter million residents in Mount Prospect and surrounding communities. We are currently searching for part-time Group Fitness Instructors. The Group Fitness Instructor is responsible for providing a safe, effective class for a variety of fitness levels. Candidates must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check. The target starting pay range is $25-$27 per hour, depending on qualifications. District employees also receive facility privileges. Essential Duties Provide a safe, effective, and fun environment for participants. Coach and motivate participants. Educate class participants on correct form and alternate moves during class. Teach assigned classes on time and take ownership for covering classes with an appropriate substitute when absent. Prepare fitness studio for class and restore space to its original state after teaching. Attend staff meetings as required. Participate in Continuing Education Credits (CEC’s or CEU’s) and maintain certification(s). Be familiar with Park District policies and procedures, and develop the ability to make decisions within Park District regulations. Provide class instruction during evening and weekend hours as required. Secondary Duties Additional functions as assigned which may be considered essential. Perform all other duties as assigned by the Fitness Supervisor, Recreation Division Manager, Director of Recreation, and/or the Executive Director. In emergencies, perform all duties as required. Qualifications Current group exercise instructor certification from AFAA, ACE or another nationally accredited organization. CPR/AED certification. Teaching experience preferred. Customer service orientation, pleasant demeanor, cooperative attitude. High energy, strong social skills, and enthusiasm. Reliable with consistent attendance, punctuality, and professionalism. Effective communication skills for coordination of work, safety, and emergency situations. Good judgment and discretion. Adherence to Park District policies and procedures. Physical ability to stand, squat, kneel, crouch, balance, lift 50+ pounds, use hands for equipment handling, and move freely throughout the facility. Due to the needs of the Park District, evening and weekend hours may be required. Work schedule may vary and may exceed regular hours, but will be less than 1,000 hours per year. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of the Group Fitness Instructor position. The Mt.
