Job Description - Mental Health Professional - Limited Duration Three-Year Term (004308) Mental Health Professional - Limited Duration Three-Year Term ( 004308 ) Location Seattle Tacoma International Airport : : Organization Police Department Employee Status Regular Schedule Full-time Posting Expires Aug 13, 2026, 6:59:00 AM Minimum Salary 107,693.00 Maximum Salary 145,702.00 Salary offers will be made within the posted range. Placement within the range will be determined based on your similar work experience. The Port considers work experience to be similar if the scope and level of responsibility of your prior positions match the job being offered. This is a limited duration position and is expected to last no longer than three (3) years. The Port of Seattle is unable to sponsor employment visas at this time. Responsibilities Some of what you'll be doing: You will be responsible for working alongside the Port of Seattle Police Department’s (POSPD) Officers and Crisis Care Coordinator in support of the unsheltered community and those in crisis. You will help facilitate connections to local resources/services and coordinate case management with POSPD. You will accompany law enforcement officers to assist individuals with mental health, substance use, people experiencing homelessness and other social service needs. You will provide outreach, engagement, and support to individuals in need and make referrals to appropriate service providers. You will promote best practices in treatment approaches, support systems and interventions as well as advocate needs and liaise between individuals, caregivers, and service providers. You will follow up with identified individuals and/or emergency medical contacts and social service providers. You will study and analyze program participation, prepare recommendations and reports for improving existing and development of new programs. You will review statistical data and identify future trends and prepare data for reports and outcome summaries. You will provide information, consultation and referral for officers and staff, determining the appropriateness of a service contract or agreement with professionals with expertise in crisis case management. You will conduct training sessions for officers and staff on methods for dealing with population served, and training on social service resources. You may provide information to courts and attorneys, may attend, and testify at court hearings or other legal proceedings, as needed. Who you are Experienced - You have two (2) years of experience working in behavioral health, chemical dependency, and/or with unsheltered populations. Educated - You possess a Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or related field. You also have one or more of the following licenses active in the State of Washington: Advanced Social Worker, Independent Clinical Social Worker, Mental Health Counselor Desired - We hope you have five (5) or more years of experience working with individuals with mental illness, homelessness, and/or chemically dependent. We also hope you have an awareness of available local resources in and around the area. Knowledgeable in Mental Health - You can identify symptoms of behavioral and social characteristics affecting populations served. You understand methods and philosophies related to providing social services and community service programs related to mental health challenges, homelessness and substance reliance. Problem Solver - You are skilled in identifying the best solutions to address problems, apply conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques to result in the best possible outcomes. Personable Communicator - You possess excellent verbal and written communications skills, public speaking skills, and ability to provide presentations and facilitation. You know how to communicate with diverse populations and address issues on a spectrum of social needs. Analytical - You are great at effectively preparing reports and presenting findings as well as analyzing programs, policies, and procedures to meet operational needs. What else you need to know Background Investigation - You must pass a background investigation that includes a complete criminal records check, a polygraph examination, a medical examination and a psychological examination. Background investigations will be conducted as openings occur and include the following: driving history, credit history, arrest records, military records, educational records, and other sources where information can be obtained to measure one's suitability for work within a Police Department. Driver’s License - You will need a valid Washington State Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one, is required prior to your start date. Work Schedule - Your normal work schedule will be nontraditional work hours. You may be required to work any and all assigned shifts, including weekends and holidays. You may be required to work during emergencies. Work Environment - You will work both indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. You will sometimes work in or near moving traffic and will be occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles consistent with working near aircraft and maritime vessels. You may be exposed to aircraft noise. You will be required to walk and stand for extended periods of time throughout each shift. Washington State Residency Requirement - Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State. Security Requirements - As the successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance. You will also be required to obtain a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) Customs Seal within 30 days of hire, and you must obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) within the first three months of employment. Limited Duration - This is a limited duration position and is expected to last no longer than three (3) years.
