Job Title: Registered Nurse - Telemetry Profession: Nursing Specialty: Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience, including recent experience within the past 6 months License: Current RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Strong cardiac telemetry background Ability to titrate cardiac drips per physician's orders and parameters Experience caring for telemetry patients Description: This position requires strong telemetry skills. Travelers must pass a dysrhythmia exam within 48 hours of receiving an offer. A PASS/FAIL simulation lab will occur on the first day of orientation, with study guides provided. The unit has 60 emergency department beds. Nurse ratios are 1 to 4. Common patient diagnoses include emergency department holds waiting for placements primarily in medical/surgical and telemetry. Nurses will administer and titrate drips such as Cardizem, Heparin, and Amiodarone. Charge nurses or house supervisors will oversee the unit. Patient care technicians will be available for assistance. Nurses must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips as there are no monitor technicians on the unit. 12-hour shifts are available, with a schedule that allows for self-scheduling but may change. The weekend requirement is four shifts in a four-week schedule. Holidays are rotated in with permanent staff, and there is no call requirement. Nurses may float to medical/surgical/telemetry overflow units as needed. The dress code is navy scrubs. Additional responsibilities may include assisting with emergency department patients, such as taking vital signs, starting IVs, and administering medications. Nurses will not be primary RN for emergency department assignments. The hospital can cancel up to four shifts per assignment. Experience in charting systems is preferred, and the charting system utilized is Cerner.
