Lab Technician

Job Overview Molex is hiring an Engineering Lab Mechanical Technician for the Engineering Lab in Lisle, Illinois. The role involves hands-on technical work supporting product development testing and sample elaboration, and collaborating with a diverse engineering team to deliver quality, timely results. What You Will Do Use basic hand and power tools to assemble and adapt various mechanisms, fixtures, and products. Operate light manufacturing and shop equipment. Handle basic electronics components and methods such as wiring, stripping, crimping, soldering, and multimeter use. Understand 3D modeling and file export and sharing for presentation and manufacturing purposes. Execute mechanical tests in accordance with industry, customer, and internal specifications. Complete product evaluation and performance analysis using test results and statistical analysis. Perform troubleshooting and root cause failure analysis. Read and evaluate task assignments to assess performance and reliability of terminals, connectors, and module-level products/systems under mechanical conditions. Operate automated mechanical force test equipment. Design mechanical test fixtures and collaborate with the model shop or vendors for fixture manufacturing. Conduct various mechanical tests, including but not limited to: connector mate/unmate, terminal insertion/extraction, normal force, durability, cable pull, linear cycling, and cable flex. Work closely with project leaders to ensure efficient and timely project deliverables to customers. Produce technical writing and best-practice documentation. Maintain the lab and equipment, scheduling calibrations as required. Who You Are (Basic Qualifications) Associate’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Engineering Science, or equivalent work experience in a laboratory environment related to the field. One year or more experience in a laboratory environment related to the field. Experience with force test equipment, load frames, and load cells. What Will Put You Ahead Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or Engineering Science. Experience with Instron force test equipment and Bluehill Universal software. Experience with mechanical cycle testing (linear and/or cable flex). Experience testing electrical interconnect systems, including data analysis and troubleshooting to support root cause failure analysis. Proficiency with common metrology tools and ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and geometric tolerances (GD&T).
