Lead Superintendent Job Locations: US-SC-Columbia Overview Gilbane is seeking a Lead Superintendent to independently manage all field operations on a $5–$50M project. This position requires daily on-site presence and plays a key role on the project team. Responsibilities Direct day‑to‑day coordination of trade contractors and sub‑contractors to meet schedule and quality goals. Develop, document, and communicate the work plan for field changes. Maintain a thorough understanding of contract documents to anticipate potential problems. Obtain or verify that subcontractors secure all necessary permits. Establish credibility among owners, trade contractors, unions, and partners by maintaining a fair environment. Act as primary safety representative, enforcing compliance with all trades. Lead contractor meetings regularly. Maintain daily reports and documentation using software tools. Create, manage, and update the project schedule, implementing contingency plans when needed. Communicate schedule status, updates, and changes to the project team and trade contractors. Plan, coordinate, and manage jobsite logistics. Develop the Quality in Construction plan with Operations Excellence and oversee implementation. Coordinate with Site Services/Next 150 to order materials and schedule crew. Train direct reports (Field Engineers and Superintendents) on project needs, construction knowledge, and business acumen. Review and support scope writing and participate in buyout. Assist in Time and Materials tracking. Lead stretch and flex, daily huddle, and pre‑task plan reviews. Assist with general requirements financial forecasting. Collaborate with business development to integrate sales strategies and client relationships. Train direct reports on processes, procedures, and daily tasks. Manage workload and performance of direct reports to meet company standards. Foster a positive, inclusive work environment to motivate and engage team members. Aide in communicating company and department strategy to direct reports. Assist with tasks typically assigned to junior positions as needed. Qualifications Experience/Education Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Construction Management. 7–12 years of experience leading a component or entire project for a value of $30 million or larger on commercial/industrial construction projects in a superintendent role. OSHA 30‑hour certification. STS‑C certification. First Aid, CPR, AED, Stop the Bleed Training. Or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong technical and communication skills. Excellent organizational and problem‑solving skills. Ability to work and collaborate in a team environment. Proficient in Microsoft Office. Knowledge of construction software tools, including logistics and scheduling software. Fully literate with construction documents and drawings across all phases. Experience and proficiency in most divisions of work, methods, materials, scheduling, and cost control. Strong knowledge and appreciation of construction safety processes and ability to enforce the safety plan. Ability to create an environment where safety is a culture and all trades people work with an incident‑free attitude.
