HPC Data Center Automation Engineer - Onsite (TX)

Reporting to the VP, Engineering, the Automation Specialist will support the company’s efforts in design, installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of Automation and Controls systems for our air or liquid‑cooled High‑Performance Computing (HPC) Data Centers. Job Responsibilities Act as point of contact for Controls and Automation regarding our HPC data centers, ensuring that all automation and control systems for air or liquid cooling are operating as expected. Interpret and maintain existing code and write/new code for PLCs, controllers and SCADA fleet. Support Engineering and site teams by troubleshooting control and automation issues that impair efficient cooling of the computing equipment fleet. Participate in design, construction or commissioning efforts as part of project life cycles. Work with mechanical and cooling engineers to integrate system changes into control logic and programming. Follow Management of Change processes for safe code deployment and provide accurate version management for all PLCs and control devices under scope. Work with IT and DevOps teams to ensure field signals and information feed into enterprise and supervisory systems for monitoring and alarm management. Maintain accurate control and automation record files for consultation. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Automation Technology or related technical discipline, or certification in automation technologies from a reputable manufacturer, combined with at least 2 years of industrial automation experience. Sound understanding of control theory (e.g., PID loops, ON/OFF control with hysteresis, scaled inputs from separate control algorithms, etc.). Strong knowledge of automation frameworks and tools, with proven hands‑on experience with PLCs, SCADA systems, robotics or scripting languages like Python. Proficiency in programming languages and coding for PLCs and controllers, such as Ladder Diagram, Function Block Diagram, Structured Text or Sequential Function Chart. Knowledge of field devices, sensors and actuators (temperature, pressure, flow, vibration) and their signal types and wiring methods for control and monitoring. Knowledge of industrial networks and communication protocols used in them. Excellent abstract thinking, analytical and problem‑solving skills. Self‑driven, detail‑oriented and able to execute high‑quality work with limited direction. Comfortable managing uncertainty and limited resources or information. Additional Requirements Pre‑employment screening, including background check and substance testing, may be required according to company policies. Must provide own steel‑toed work boots; other PPE will be supplied. Must be able to reliably commute to the work site daily or have plans to relocate before starting work.
