Job Description: Primary School Teacher

Reports To: Headmaster of School
PURPOSE

The Secondary School faculty teaches and trains students, inspiring them toward wisdom and godliness.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Instruction

Teaches assigned classes in a way that inspires students to love learning and effectively equips them with primary-level skills and curriculum knowledge by:

a. Knowing the material being taught
b. Holding the students’ interest
c. Speaking in clear, vivid language
d. Meeting students’ individual needs
e. Explaining the unknown in terms of the known
f. Challenging students without exasperating them
g. Helping students retain and apply knowledge
h. Reviewing content sufficiently
i. Creatively planning and delivering lessons

 

2. Discipleship & Classroom Culture

Trains students and maintains a classroom culture that reflects Christ, resulting in students who are disciples of Jesus Christ and who consciously live out His life by:

a. Following discipline policies
b. Maintaining a studious classroom environment
c. Preventing students from disrupting others’ learning
d. Providing clear expectations for behavior
e. Fostering a joyful atmosphere of learning
f. Avoiding stifling or boring instruction
g. Loving students, even when disciplining them
h. Upholding school culture and values
i. Ensuring students are in proper uniform

 

3. Christian Example & Professional Conduct

Models Christ-like character and professional behavior, resulting in students who emulate their teacher’s conduct, attitudes, and work ethic by:

a. Being punctual
b. Being compliant with school policies
c. Demonstrating responsibility
d. Serving as a positive role model
e. Following the staff dress code
f. Submitting lesson plans in a timely manner
g. Returning student work promptly
h. Maintaining a clear and readable grade book
i. Communicating effectively with parents

4. Classroom Environment

Creates and maintains a clean and inspiring classroom that fosters learning by:

a. Keeping the classroom neat and orderly
b. Using visuals and creative elements to reinforce curriculum content

5. Teaching Methodology

Implements effective teaching strategies that promote memorization, analysis, and critical thinking at the secondary level by:

a. Teaching through analysis
b. Modeling excellent logic and rhetoric in lectures
c. Guiding meaningful discussions and debates

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. A bachelor’s degree is not required.

  2. Teachers are expected to pursue continued professional development and address areas of weakness through training.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Teachers are responsible for supervising their classrooms. Teachers with Teaching Assistants are also responsible for supervising their assistants.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / DYNAMICS

Teachers primarily work in a classroom setting and are also responsible for supervising students during recess and lunch.

WORK YEAR

This is a full-time position that follows a 9-month academic year.

SCHEDULE FOR EVALUATION

Teachers will be evaluated annually by the end of the Spring Semester. New teachers will also receive a 60-day evaluation during their first semester.
