Job Description and Duties

THIS POSITION MAY BE ELIGIBLE FOR A HYBRID WORK SCHEDULE. THE AMOUNT OF TELEWORK IS AT THE DISCRETION OF THE DEPARTMENT AND IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE AS BUSINESS NEEDS ARISE.

Under general direction, provides leadership for one or more field office units. Ensures services are delivered in compliance with laws, policies, and procedures governing the Disability Insurance Program. Emphasizes program integrity and proper duration control. Develops and maintains staff to ensure proper processing of workload while operating within budgetary limitations. Supports continuous capacity building for all unit staff. Encourages open, two-way, communication. Assists in the maintenance of a marketing program, which includes educating and partnering with program customers. Has knowledge of the office budget processes. Complies with all system security, internal control, and employee safety requirements. May serve as office manager in the manager’s absence. Acts a coach and role model to members of the management team and to all staff. Supports the Branch and Department vision, mission, values, and goals.

This position allows for a hybrid telework schedule, which is subject to change under EDD’s telework policy. California Government Code Section 14200 requires employees to reside in California in order to telework. Employees may be required to report to their headquarters office as needed for operational needs, required scheduled in office days associated with the hybrid schedule, and other activities including but not limited to new employee training.

Effective July 1, 2025, specific Bargaining Units and associated Excluded State employees are subject to a salary reduction between 2% - 4.62% in exchange for hours in the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) per month. If selected for hire , you must obtain list eligibility by taking and passing the examination. If you already have list eligibility for this classification, you do not need to retake the examination unless your list eligibility has expired.

The Disability Insurance Program Manager I is a Departmental Promotional exam for EDD employees only. The next administration of the Disability Insurance Program Manager I exam is tentatively scheduled for October 2026.

Statement of Qualifications Requirements
