Job Title: Extrusion Machine Operator

Job Description

This role operates and sets up plastic extrusion machinery to produce high-quality products in a clean, climate-controlled manufacturing environment. You will load raw materials, assist with machine start-up and shutdown, perform quality checks, and ensure efficient, safe, and accurate production on your assigned shift.

Responsibilities

• Load rolls of raw plastic material into industrial extrusion machinery using a stand-up forklift.
• Assist with machine start-up, shutdown, product changeovers, and material changes to support continuous production.
• Set up plastic extrusion machinery according to production specifications and work instructions.
• Monitor machine performance throughout the shift and promptly notify senior operators of any process or equipment issues.
• Make appropriate adjustments to machinery to maintain product quality, consistency, and throughput.
• Perform quality checks using gauges, tape measures, calipers, micrometers, and visual inspection to verify products meet specifications.
• Record production data, quality results, and downtime information accurately and in a timely manner.
• Follow blueprints or production documentation to ensure correct dimensions and product requirements.
• Assist in troubleshooting machine issues and support corrective actions to minimize downtime.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with company standards.
• Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while operating machinery and material handling equipment.

Essential Skills

• Experience operating production or industrial machinery, preferably extrusion machines or similar equipment.
• Hands-on experience with plastic extrusion, machine setup, and making mechanical adjustments during production.
• Ability to operate a stand-up forklift to move and load rolls of raw plastic material.
• Proficiency in reading and using measuring tools such as gauges, tape measures, calipers, and micrometers.
• Basic math and measurement skills to verify dimensions and product specifications.
• Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with mechanical systems and machine components.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints or production drawings.
• Experience performing quality inspections in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to monitor machine performance and identify potential issues or abnormalities.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy when recording production and quality data.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience as an extrusion operator or in plastic extrusion production.
• Experience in roll forming or similar continuous production processes.
• Prior experience troubleshooting machines and supporting maintenance activities.
• Familiarity with industrial quality standards and documentation practices.
• Comfort working on multiple shifts, including potential evenings, nights, or weekends as required by production.
• Strong communication skills to collaborate with operators and production team members.

Work Environment

The role is based in a very clean, well-lit, climate-controlled manufacturing facility focused on plastic extrusion. You will work on the production floor operating industrial extrusion machinery and using equipment such as stand-up forklifts, gauges, tape measures, calipers, and micrometers. The environment emphasizes safety, organization, and consistent processes. Work is performed on multiple shifts, which may include days, evenings, or nights depending on production needs. You will spend most of your time standing, monitoring machines, handling materials, and performing inspections in a structured, well-maintained industrial setting.

This is a Permanent position based out of Richmond, IN.

The pay range for this position is $41600.00 - $52000.00/yr.

This is a fully onsite position in Richmond,IN.
