Assistant Store Director - North Indianapolis

Overview Meijer is a family company that serves people and communities. Key Responsibilities Provide direction related to operations, processes, and store conditions. Plan, direct, and supervise the team in day‑to‑day store operation. Recruit, select, train, develop, and manage performance for all team members. Develop strategies to improve customer service, increase store sales, and enhance profitability. Ensure customer needs are met, complaints are resolved effectively, and service is quick and efficient. Maintain effective product merchandising and displays to maximize sales. Forecast staffing needs and develop recruiting strategies for optimal staffing. Work in a manner that reflects Meijer's brand and values. Oversee overall operations across food and general merchandise areas. Manage planograms, seasonal resets, and endcaps. Engage team members and leadership to provide an excellent customer shopping experience. Create a culture that drives positive team engagement, retains talent, and recruits new talent. Identify, select, and develop talent within the store. Uphold cultural standards and values through open, clear, and effective communication. Assess financial results and execute business strategies to drive profitability. Serve as a strong community partner by cultivating relationships that support the Meijer brand. Assist the Store Director in running overall store operations as needed. Lead performance management activities for leaders and team members. Attract, select, and retain a team that supports Meijer culture and values diversity, equity, and inclusion. Communicate daily with the team, leading huddles on financial performance, customer feedback, and recognition. Drive candid and open communication built on Meijer’s philosophy of care and accountability. Communicate product freshness standards and ensure processes and procedures are followed. Be responsible for all store operations in the absence of the Store Director. Verify operations comply with Meijer’s and local authorities’ food safety standards. Create connections with local communities and customers through personal involvement. Deliver key performance metrics, including sales, shrink, labor, margin, profit, customer satisfaction, and safety. Drive new implementations and initiatives identified by store operations. Stay informed of macro environmental changes and customer desires to keep Meijer competitive. Participate in daily DSD execution, backroom and salesfloor excellence. Remain current on competitive trends, strengths, and weaknesses of competitors. Follow company merchandising planograms and use the 85/15 rule for design, ordering, weekly ads, seasonal assortments, displays, and pricing. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Minimum 5+ years of retail, grocery, operations management, or customer service experience. 4+ years of progressive leadership experience. Passion for leading others while providing industry‑leading service. Demonstrated proactive and creative thinking applied to business. Thorough understanding of seasonal and diverse merchandising to meet customer needs and gain sales. Strong business acumen. Innovative attitude to help Meijer set industry standards.
