Registered Nurse NICU

Job Summary:


The Registered Nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides specialized nursing care to Level II NICU admissions and normal newborns of 32 weeks gestation or greater. This role includes attending vaginal and cesarean deliveries, including high-risk cases, and delivering respiratory support and feeding interventions. The nurse must be adaptable to float to other units as needed and maintain competency in mother-baby couplet care if applicable. A minimum of 2 years NICU experience and active nursing licensure are required, along with BLS and NRP certifications.

Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care to Level II NICU patients and normal newborns (32 weeks gestation or greater).
• Attend and assist with vaginal and cesarean deliveries, including high-risk deliveries.
• Administer respiratory support including CPAP and BiPap.
• Manage feeding tubes and syringe pumps for neonatal patients.
• Float to other units as needed to support patient care demands.
• Care for mother-baby couplets when competent and required.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure comprehensive patient care.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Minimum 2 years of NICU nursing experience.
• Active compact Registered Nurse license valid at Swedish facilities.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Competency in mother-baby couplet care.
• Experience with respiratory support devices and neonatal feeding technologies.

Special Considerations:

• Position available only to candidates separated from any Providence-affiliated facility for at least 3 months.
• Flexibility to float to other units as patient care needs arise.
• NICU travel nurses are not required to care for mother-baby couplets unless already competent.

Scheduling:

• Shift assignments may vary; nurses must be flexible to accommodate unit needs.
