Chicago, IllinoisFacilities – MEP and Heavy Industry /Full Time /HybridThe Mechanical Engineer III is a senior-level role responsible for leading and executing complex mechanical design and project management tasks across a diverse portfolio of projects. They work with minimal oversight, this position serves as both a technical leader and collaborative team member, providing expertise in HVAC and building systems design. Typical responsibilities include performing advanced HVAC design and load calculations, developing hydronic system layouts with flow and pressure calculations, and selecting and specifying mechanical equipment. Additional duties include designing fire protection systems, coordinating underground utilities, and producing high-quality specifications and construction documents. The Mechanical Engineer III ensures all designs meet applicable codes, standards, and client requirements while delivering innovative, cost-effective solutions. What you will do:Lead or support mechanical engineering design for a variety of building projects with minimal oversightPerform HVAC system load calculations, equipment sizing, and energy efficiency analysisDesign hydronic systems, perform flow and pressure calculations, and select appropriate pumps and piping configurationsDevelop fire protection system layouts and coordinate with other disciplines for integrationCoordinate underground mechanical utilities with civil, structural, and other site-related workPrepare detailed drawings, specifications, and construction documents using Revit and AutoCADEnsure all designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and project requirementsReview and approve mechanical engineering calculations, drawings, and specificationsParticipate in multidisciplinary coordination meetings with architects, engineers, and contractorsProvide construction administration support, including reviewing submittals, responding to RFIs, and performing site visitsMentor junior engineers and designers, providing technical guidance and quality reviewManage portions of projects including budgets, schedules, and deliverablesWho you are:Four-year bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an ABET accredited institution  6-8 years of experience in mechanical engineering required  Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) preferredProficiency in HVAC and hydronic system design, calculations, and equipment selectionKnowledge of fire protection system design and underground utility coordinationStrong understanding of mechanical codes and standards (ASHRAE, NFPA, IMC, IPC)Skilled in Revit and AutoCAD for MEP system modeling and documentationAbility to develop detailed engineering specifications and construction documentsExperience with project management, including scope, schedule, and budget oversightStrong multidisciplinary coordination skills with other engineering and architectural disciplinesExcellent problem-solving, attention to detail, and quality control abilitiesEffective verbal and written communication skills for client and team interactionAbility to mentor junior engineers and work independently with minimal supervisionAt Milhouse, we’re more than just a place to work — we’re a place to grow, thrive, and be celebrated.
