Clean Harbors – Environmental Field Chemist (CleanPack Chemist) Location: Rancho Dominguez, CA Shift: Monday – Friday 5 AM – 5 PM Benefits: CDL school sponsorship, overtime & GL opportunities About the Role Our Environmental Field Chemist is an entry‑level position that handles, segregates, packs, and inspects chemical waste in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations. The role involves both indoor and outdoor work at plants, labs, and customer sites. You will assist with laboratory packs within customer facilities, household hazardous waste (HHW) collections, and lab moves, and will visit customer sites daily. As part of Clean Harbors’ career progression, this position is an entry‑level management role with opportunities to advance into many other positions within the company and at customer sites. Responsibilities Prioritize Health & Safety by complying with all safe work practices and policies. Prepare computer‑generated packing lists, labels, manifests, and land disposal restriction notifications. Perform inspections of staging, accumulating, and storage areas to ensure proper housekeeping and compliance. Inspect storage areas and drums for leaks, spills, and labeling compliance. Collect, segregate, and properly package waste chemicals for disposal to maximize efficiency and maintain compliance. Execute jobs at Clean Harbors customer locations, including Fortune‑500 companies. Ensure final preparation and approval of all projects before shipment in accordance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and company policies. Conduct projects/jobs according to site‑specific federal, state, and local regulations and health and safety plans. Understand customer‑specific disposal restrictions and special packaging requirements. Sample and profile new waste streams or any waste requiring analytical testing. Ensure drum count is correct and drums meet company shipping requirements. Follow all local, state, and federal compliance regulations and rules. Safely operate vehicles in accordance with U.S. DOT, local, state, and federal requirements. Observe all corporate operating guidelines and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Valid driver’s license. Strong customer service skills. Obtain a CDL Class B with hazmat and tanker endorsements within 6 months of employment. Perform physical functions required by the job. Successfully complete a background check, drug test, and physical exam. Meet OSHA respiratory protection facial hair standards if required to use respirators. Preferred Qualifications College degree in Chemistry or Natural Sciences. Previous experience in environmental services (remediation, abatement, emergency spill response, etc.). Benefits Competitive pay range: $19–$22 per hour.
