Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine is searching for a PhoneTriage Registered Nurse. Provides professional nursing care through telephone and electronic communication to patients receiving care in the WMed clinics. The Phone Triage Registered Nurse utilizes evidence-based telephone triage protocols, nursing assessment skills, and clinical judgment to assess patient symptoms, determine the urgency of care, provide appropriate education, and coordinate care with providers and other members of the healthcare team.

The Phone Triage Registered Nurse serves as a clinical resource for patients, promotes continuity of care, supports efficient clinic operations, and ensures safe, timely, and patient-centered care.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Refers abnormal lab work to physicians for appropriate follow up.
• Calls for prescription refills.
• Discuss day-to-day issues with supervisor for resolution.
• Availability to work occasional overtime on weekends and evenings to complete time sensitive projects.
• Acquires knowledge for new technology and policy/procedure revisions.

• All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

• Graduate of an accredited RN Program required.
• Minimum of 4 years of clinical nursing experience.
• Experience in ambulatory care, primary care, specialty clinic, emergency nursing, or telephone triage preferred.
• Experience with electronic medical records preferred.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, CERTIFICATIONS:

• Current Michigan Registered Nurse license required.
• Current BLS certification required.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge and ability to use the EMR.
• Knowledge of the phone system.
• Knowledge and ability to use Outlook messaging, appointment scheduling, and the calendar.
• Positive attitude.
• Regular and predictable attendance is expected, less than 4% unscheduled PTO in a 12-month period.
