FOH Consulting Dentist - PRN

Dentist (PRN) Responsibilities Provide dental consultation and case review evaluations on Workers' Compensation cases, primarily for the Department of Labor (DOL) on Federal Employee Compensation Act cases. Complete training on DFEC policy, procedures, and regulations before performing case reviews. Perform dental consultation in accordance with FOH's policy and standard operating procedures. Support the dental and consultative needs for the Department of Labor (DOL) and other federal agencies when requested. Evaluate workers' compensation case files, interpret dental reports, evaluate evidence, translate technical language, and provide guidance to customer agencies regarding dental issues pertaining to workers' compensation cases. Perform DOL FECA case reviews following DOL FECA regulations. This includes: Routine Dental Review: review routine dental authorizations or opinions, e.g., extended treatment, consequential condition relationship, etc. Provide written opinion within 10 business days. Complex Dental Review: review complex issues such as replacement of many teeth, malocclusion correction, periodontal treatment, etc. Provide written opinion within 20 business days. Impairment Rating (Routine and Complex): provide dental consultation on impairment ratings using AMA Guides (6th ed). Provide written opinion within 10 or 20 business days for simple and complex cases. Death Claim Review: Evaluate dental information in death claims for causal relationship. Provide written opinion within 10 business days. Expedited Review: Perform reviews on catastrophic dental injury cases or other expedited scenarios. Provide written opinion within 3 business days. Demonstrate strong technical expertise in dental consultation for workers' compensation cases and communicate orally and in writing. Render dental opinions with reasonable medical certainty and clear written rationale. Possess strong technical knowledge of federal safety and health and workers' compensation regulations. Demonstrate high level of professional conduct. Provide expert dental advice and consultation to FOH and its federal customer agencies on workers' compensation issues. Clinical May be required to conduct hands-on examinations (if privileged by FOH), render a professional opinion related to work clearances or recommendations consistent with examination findings and established physical qualifications. Procurement Submit monthly billing in the specified format and by specified deadlines. Staffing and Reporting Relationships Receive program direction from the FOH Medical Director. Technology Comply with DFEC program requirements regarding access to and use of DOL databases or applications that contain confidential dental, medical and personal information. Required Skills Active dental practice with minimum 240 direct patient care hours per year to participate as a dental provider under FEA. Expert understanding of Federal safety and health regulations and experience reviewing workers' compensation cases; broad knowledge of federal workers compensation desired. Experience dealing with various sized organizations representing differing backgrounds, viewpoints, and authority levels (labor union and management issues related to workers' compensation). Maintain current BLS certification if conducting direct patient evaluations. Basic computer skill proficiency (MS Word, Excel, MS Access, Outlook). Excellent written and oral communication skills. Required Experience Licensed dentist with D.D.S. or D.M.D. from an accredited university dental program (CODA). Board-certification from American Board of General Dentistry or a specialty board recognized by the NCRC preferred. Valid state license to practice dentistry from one of the 50 states or D.C. without disciplinary actions. Minimum 2 years of clinical experience in the specialty for workers' compensation reviews will be conducted. Advanced training in Public Health desired with previous experience as a dental consultant for a federal agency.
