JMT is currently ranked #45 on Engineering News-Record's list of the Top 500 Design Firms.Position Summary: JMT is currently seeking a Qualified Elevator Inspector (QEI) to carry out Construction Management and Inspection Services in the Pittsburgh, PA region. Projects may include public housing, education, airport, rail/transportation and/or other public building projects. Experience should include inspection of elevators, escalators, mechanized walkways, and/or other lift machinery, verifying that the operation, construction, retrofit, or repair work in the field is performed in accordance with applicable code requirements, drawings, plans, specifications and contract documents.Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g. H1B, F-1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT) is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.Essential Functions and ResponsibilitiesRead and interpret plans and specs and prepare written contract administration documentation such as daily narratives (work reports), special inspection reports, daily time and material records, document unit price work and verify that all mechanical work aligns with approved drawings and design documentsPerforms trade specific code and/ or Quality Control inspections on various phases/ aspects of elevator/ lift equipmentDetect possible defects and faults in equipment installations, maintenance, or operation and recommend or stipulate appropriate remedial measures per Jurisdictional requirements and keep the Resident Engineer/PM advised of potential issuesPrepare estimates of extra work and related sketches and documentationReview plans for constructability and prepare commentsReview contractor payment requests and provide comments to the Resident Engineer/PMOversee and participate in the testing, commissioning, and startup of mechanical systemsEnsure proper functionality of pumps, compressors, piping, ventilation, fire suppression, and fuel distribution systemsIdentify any discrepancies or defects and coordinate necessary corrective actionsRequired SkillsWorking knowledge of the latest Building Codes.Willingness to learn and an ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written. Verbal communication includes speaking with the Resident Engineer, other contract staff, and facility staff both in person via two-way communication.Possession of current QEI (Qualified Elevator Inspector) certification OR Five years' experience in the elevator industry performing elevator inspections, service, repairs, and or testing of elevator systems. Education in the engineering discipline may be substituted for two years of field experienceDemonstrated knowledge of the methods and practices involved in installing, repairing and maintaining a variety of electric and hydraulic elevators, escalators and moving walksValid Driver's license required - Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screeningRequired ExperienceHigh School Diploma or Equivalent8 years of experience inspecting construction work, varied in size (projects ranging from $200K to $25 million plus) and complexity (multiple crews and crew sizes per shift)Trained in OSHA 30-hour construction safetyPreferred ExperienceBachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferredAviation/Airport experience preferredElectrical, civil, architectural, and structural knowledge preferredICC and Work Zone Safety Certifications are preferredWorking ConditionsWork is performed primarily in the field. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed.
