Anticipated 2025 - 2026 Opening Duties: Per the attached job description including knowledge of plant operation and maintenance, cleaning methods and procedures, heating and ventilation. Ability to read, write and communicate effectively. Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 80 pounds. Ability to frequently work on a ladder and occasionally use aerial lifts with proper training. Required criminal history background check. Boiler license preferred. Effective date: as soon as possible. Salary: following the HVESPA Salary Guide, ranging from $38,397 - $66,470. Benefits: full-time staff are eligible for medical, prescription, and dental benefits. Reports To: Head Custodian/Custodial Supervisor

Job Goal: The Custodian is responsible for keeping assigned building(s) clean, safe, functional, and secure in accordance with prescribed codes and established district policies and standards. A custodial worker must maintain all assigned building(s) in a state of operational excellence such that they present no interruptions, distractions, or obstacles to the education program. Some overtime work can be expected and that work will include some weekends.

Performance Responsibilities:

1. Opens/closes the building each day. Determines, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured, and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off.

2. Keeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean at all times.

3. Operates heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical use of fuel, water, and electricity.

4. Checks daily to ensure that all exits are clear and free of obstruction and that all exit doors open freely and latch upon closing.

5. Displays the U.S. flag during school hours on days when school is in session.

6. Checks daily activity schedule to see if any special equipment must be set up.

7. Provide services as necessary to support curricular and extracurricular activities.

8. Cleans, dusts, vacuums, sweeps, mops, empties waste, etc. in all areas as assigned.

9. Cleans corridors after each school day, and during the day when their condition requires it.

10. Cleans and sanitizes bathroom fixtures and floors daily, and replenishes paper and soap supplies as needed.

11. Cleans and sanitizes all drinking fountains daily.

12. Cleans kitchen and cafeteria-dining areas after use.

13. Shovels, plows, salts, and/or sweeps sidewalks, steps, driveways, and parking areas as necessary.

14. Obeys all fire/safety and environmental laws and regulations relating to the plant operation.

15. Keeps the grounds free from rubbish and debris.

16. Cleans chalkboards daily.

17. Moves furniture or equipment within the building as required for various activities and as directed by the head custodian/principal/Custodial Supervisor.

18. Complies with all laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, waste, and debris.

19. Conducts an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair, making minor repairs and reporting major repair needs promptly to the head custodian/Custodial Supervisor.

20. Cleans all windows on both the inside and outside as scheduled.

21. Keeps all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation.

22. Turns in any items found to the lost and found.

23. Assists other employees with cleanup after large activities.

24. Checks entire area for vandalism and reports to the Facilities Department.

25. Performs grounds keeping chores including grass-cutting, tree-trimming, leaf raking and removal of litter, to maintain the grounds in a safe and attractive condition.

26. Performs related duties as assigned.

Terms of Employment: Salary and work year to be determined by the Board of Education.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of board policy on evaluation of non-certified staff.
