Technologists are responsible for accurate patient positioning, technique selection, image acquisition, and ensuring image quality that meets diagnostic standards. Your typical day may involve checking imaging orders for appropriateness, verifying patient identity and consent, explaining procedures to patients, performing radiographic exams, ensuring radiation safety for patients and staff, and working closely with providers to prioritize urgent or emergent cases. You will use digital imaging systems and PACS for image processing and transmission, and you may assist in coordinating workflow with the radiology reading room and other departments. The work environment supports independent practice within established protocols, while still offering guidance from experienced colleagues and medical staff. Depending on the department structure, shifts may include days, evenings, nights, and weekend or holiday rotations. Patient volumes and acuity can vary, with a mix of scheduled outpatient exams and unscheduled inpatient or emergency studies.
