About The Children’s Center Founded in 1986, The Children’s Center is a high-quality nonprofit early childhood education center serving approximately 50 children ages 2–5 in the Fan area, while actively exploring a second location in the East End. Position Summary The Development Assistant is a full-time position supporting the organization’s fundraising, donor relations, and communications efforts. Reporting directly to the Director of Development, this role plays a pivotal part in advancing the Center’s mission through accurate donor data management, event coordination, campaign support, and administrative execution. Key Responsibilities Donor Data Management & Analytics CRM Oversight and Online Giving & Mailings: Process all gifts, prepare donor acknowledgments, document donor correspondence, and track grant applications in CRM software. Ensure records are complete and accurate. Manage the online giving portal and collaborate with communications staff to compile mailing lists, track digital campaigns, and analyze results. Reporting & Dashboards: Manage and lead weekly/monthly Development Dashboard reporting to track fundraising progress, retention, and growth metrics. Financial Reconciliation: Work with the Development Director and bookkeeper to ensure accurate weekly and monthly reconciliations, providing data for the annual audit and Form 990. Campaign & Special Project Support Assist in the planning and execution of general fundraising initiatives, special projects, and capital campaign launches. Assist with basic prospect research and support the writing and tracking of grant applications. Manage the coordination of the in‑kind gift and wish list programs, including solicitation, processing, organizing, and distribution. Other duties as assigned. Event Coordination Help plan and execute fundraising and stewardship events, managing logistics, vendor coordination, guest lists, and on‑site support. Assist with post‑event reporting, financial tracking, and attendee follow‑up. Work occasional evening or weekend hours for events, scheduled with advance notice. Communications & Marketing Support Assist with development‑related communications, including newsletters, email campaigns, appeal letters, and social media content. Help prepare marketing collateral, briefings, presentations, and stewardship reports for leadership and donors. Other duties as assigned. Administrative & Board Support Provide calendar, scheduling, and general administrative support to the Director of Development and other duties as assigned. Serve as administrative support for board committees (such as the Resource Development Committee and Community Board), preparing agendas, logistics, meeting minutes, and tracking engagement. Manage internal administrative tasks, such as tracking department expenses and credit card statements. Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Required Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination of education and 1–2 years of relevant experience). 1–3 years of experience in administrative, development, marketing, or customer service roles (internship and volunteer experience in non‑profits considered). Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook). Strong organizational skills, keen attention to detail, and top‑tier proofreading abilities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proven ability to manage multiple deadlines, prioritize tasks, and handle confidential data with discretion. Required Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination of education and 1–2 years of relevant experience). 1–3 years of experience in administrative, development, marketing, or customer service roles (internship and volunteer experience in non‑profits considered). Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook). Strong organizational skills, keen attention to detail, and top‑tier proofreading abilities. Preferred Hands‑on experience with CRM or donor databases (Network for Good, Blackbaud, etc.). Knowledge of or strong interest in early childhood education and trauma‑informed practices. Prior experience supporting fundraising campaigns, annual funds, or special events.
