Surgical Technician – General Surgery

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | 13 Weeks | Full-Time | Onsite | Weekend Shift: Friday, Saturday, Sunday, 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM (3x12s)

Key Responsibilities

• Supply the operating room with proper equipment and instrumentation required for specific surgical procedures
• Maintain sterility of the surgical field throughout procedures and anticipate the needs of the surgical team
• Assist surgeons by passing instruments in a timely fashion; perform duties such as sponge or suction, holding retractors, applying electrocautery, irrigation, cutting suture material, connecting drains, and applying wound dressings under direct supervision
• Care for instrumentation and equipment following each procedure and prepare the room for the next case, assisting with efficient room turnover
• Ensure all equipment is functioning properly before procedures begin and report any malfunctioning or broken equipment
• Float to other areas of the organization as needed, up to competency level; may be required to work major holidays and pick up additional shifts based on departmental needs

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience in an OR/Trauma setting
• Prior travel assignment experience required
• Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association required
• No state license required for this role
• Candidate must complete a CMP blood panel prior to start

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience in a high-volume, fast-paced surgical environment comparable to a Level I or Level II Trauma Center
• Ability to serve a patient population spanning adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups
• Familiarity with surgeon preference cards and a broad range of surgical instrumentation, equipment, and supplies
• Strong hand-eye coordination and ability to adapt quickly to changes in medical procedures, technology, and surgeon preferences
