Program Coordinator

The International Student and Scholar Program Coordinator is responsible for programming and outreach that fosters the success and well-being of our international community. This includes identifying needs, developing learning outcomes, and designing and delivering professional intercultural and support programs that facilitate the educational, professional, and personal success of students and scholars at UCR.

Key Responsibilities include the development, delivery and review of programs, projects and events that create community, celebrate culture and promote global engagement. The program coordinator assumes the primary responsibility for the overall management and coordination of International Student Orientation. Additionally, they serve as the primary logistics coordinator for ISS, facilitating program meetings and events, and co-managing the departments newsletter and social media presence.

The coordinator is also responsible for designing and coordinating community-building events for students and scholars. Works directly with the scholar team to plan and execute scholar focused events. Guides students and scholars on complex and sensitive matters relating to cultural adjustment and intercultural communication. Manages peer mentoring programs, orientation leaders, event coordinators, and volunteers to include: recruitment, hiring, onboarding, training, and supervision.

Maintains relationships with internal and external organization stakeholders critical to program success. Works with community and campus partners to coordinate programs and organize cultural events. Provides recommendations, reports, and metrics on the feasibility of new and current programs. Provides support to international students to facilitate the academic and socio-cultural adjustment to campus, including matters related to pre-arrival, arrival and adjustment to the United States.

In collaboration with leadership, proposes a budget for yearly programming events and works within that approved budget to execute events. Works closely with the administrative team to request the hiring and onboarding of student employees and volunteers, and to request room reservations, catering, and the purchase of other required materials for program execution.

May serve as a back up Designated School Official during peak periods with minor immigration matters, such as travel signatures. Additional duties as assigned.
