Electrical Test Engineer

Seeking a Test Engineer to support the EA4 Powertrain Control Unit department, focusing on validation and testing of engine controllers, battery management systems, and hybrid (HEV) control units. This role is responsible for ensuring proper system communication and functionality within the vehicle—not calibration or tuning. The position follows the V-model development process and requires experience in electrical hardware validation, software/system integration, and network communications. Key Responsibilities Develop and execute test plans and procedures to evaluate powertrain control systems and components. Perform validation testing for engine controllers, battery management systems, and HEV control units. Ensure proper communication, signal integrity, and functional outputs within the vehicle system. Create data settings, test specifications, standards, and schedule. Prepare and set up test equipment (including oscilloscopes and data acquisition tools). Conduct moderately complex testing and document results, conclusions, and observations. Verify testing accuracy and determine if additional testing is required. Analyze and interpret test results to predict performance and potential failure modes. Provide product/design data and recommend improvements based on analysis. Identify issues, develop countermeasures, and propose design changes. Communicate findings through written reports and formal presentations. Support project assignments within FICU or TCU area. Additional Responsibilities / Work Environment Perform vehicle‑level validation and real‑world testing, including travel to Denver (high‑altitude testing) and Los Angeles/Death Valley (canyon and extreme environment testing). Interface regularly with Japan‑based counterparts. Participate in driver training and obtain testing certifications (TRC track license). Maintain a valid driver’s license in good standing. Work schedule varies (typically 40 hours/week, with some weeks up to 50–60 hours based on project demands). Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering. 6+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree, or 5+ years of test engineering experience within a related specialty. Experience developing test plans, procedures, and validation strategies. Strong understanding of electrical systems, software integration, and/or network communications. Experience with test equipment such as oscilloscopes and data acquisition systems. Ability to analyze test data and generate clear, concise technical reports. Valid driver’s license and ability to qualify for vehicle testing certification. Core Competencies Applies engineering principles and analytical tools to evaluate design feasibility.
