About This Role

The Head Start Bus Driver is responsible for safely transporting children and authorized individuals to designated locations.

What You'll Do

Familiarize yourself with Head Start Program transportation regulations, objectives, and concepts.

Develop a daily route to transport children to and from school and/or the cafeteria.

Conduct daily inspections of the vehicle prior to departure and document the findings.

Transport children and their parents on field trips and parent activities.

Ensure the normal operation of the vehicle and maintain various documentation, such as bus logs and accident records.

Work collaboratively with teachers and staff to develop developmentally appropriate activities for 3- and 4-year-olds.

Participate in staff and parent workshops to enhance your skills and knowledge.

Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the classroom and facilities.

Attend parent meetings as required and communicate effectively with parents and staff.

Maintain accurate records of children's transportation, including a daily 'passenger on/off checklist.'

Assist children in safely getting on and off the bus.

Clean the Head Start bus daily.

Release children only to designated persons.

Assist staff with receiving children during bus arrival and ensuring their departure on the correct bus.

Support staff in serving snacks and/or transporting lunch.

Perform custodial services as required and assist with other tasks assigned by administrators.

Requirements

Must maintain a good driving record.

Must pass a criminal background check.

Must communicate well with parents, Head Start staff, and children.

Must have current driver's/commercial license to drive a school bus.

Must maintain current First Aid and CPR certification.
