Provides individual play therapy to students with behavioral, social and emotional delays, as well as ongoing parent consultation on an as needed basis.Provides consultation with teachers, teaching assistants, parents, related services staff, and administrators regarding social, behavioral, emotional and developmental issues as well as giving feedback about interpersonal dynamics when appropriate.Provides psychological services to the classroom including but not limited to consultation, intermittent emotional curriculum, crisis intervention, and behavior management plans.Assists in evaluating the effectiveness of programs in the classroom with regard to:Behavioral issuesEmotional climate in the classroomGroup dynamicsProgrammatic modificationsDevelopmentally appropriate interventionsProvides psychological evaluations, screenings, and updates on children referred to Birch, as well as those currently matriculated.Designs and implements group behavior management plans for all classrooms. Individual behavior management plans may be developed for severe management problems.Provides in-service training for staff and parents on relevant topics (e.g. child development, team dynamics, interpersonal problem-solving, etc.).Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings.Functions as a child advocate for children and families during the EI, CPSE, and/or CSE process.Attends and participates in departmental meetings, supervision and school meetings.Attends any and all additional meetings, activities or functions of the school as designated by supervisory staff.Maintains timely clinical documentation following ethical and clinical guidelines (e.g. written reports, therapy notes, etc.).Provides supervision of student externs as assigned.Maintains clean and organized work areas and common areas.Maintains appropriate and effective interpersonal relationships with team members, other staff, department members, supervisors, administrative staff, parents, and outside agencies and demonstrates the following skills:open communication skills with othersthe ability to self-evaluatethe ability to utilize supervisionflexibility in all facets of the working relationshipthe ability to both offer and accept assistance to/from othersthe ability to learn and utilize team building strategiesDemonstrates respect for families and children we serve and promotes a positive school community and culture.Seeks to find and offer solutions to problemsDemonstrates understanding of the various aspects and functions of our school.Demonstrates a commitment to professional and educational growth.Complies with all school policies and procedures and understands regulatory requirements.Serves as a liaison between the school and community agencies.Performs other duties as assigned.QualificationsEducationMaster's DegreeCertificates & LicensesNYS School Psychology certification.NYS Psychology LicenseExperience2-5 years working with pre-school aged studentsBottom of FormEEO StatementBirch Family Services provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or genetics.
