The Medical Surgical unit is a 37-bed unit providing care for a diverse patient populationwith both oncologic and general medical-surgical needs. Core patient populations includeindividuals undergoing active cancer treatment, post-surgical oncology cases, and thoserequiring symptom management for complications such as neutropenia, pain crises, anddisease progression. The unit also supports end-of-life and palliative care whenappropriate. In addition to oncology-focused care, nurses manage a range of medical surgical diagnoses, requiring a broad clinical skill set. Additionally, we are a BariatricCenter of Excellence, and this unit will serve the majority of our bariatric patientsreturning from surgery. There is a very small element of Oncology to this unit. However,this is by no means a major patient population for this floor. If we do have Oncologypatients on this floor, we typically do not manage chemotherapy.
