Chief Engineer

Chief EngineerThe Chief Engineer is responsible for assisting in maintaining the building and grounds with particular attention towards safety, security, and asset protection. Furthermore, this role assigns, tracks and follows up on status of work assigned to staff and contractors as needed and helps to increase guest and team member satisfaction through effective communications and training. This role will also assist in managing budget, capital expenditures, preventative maintenance, and energy conservation.Responsibilities:Establish and maintain open, collaborative relationships with team membersMonitor timeliness and quality of completion of repair work ordersAssist in managing and inspecting the physical property including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, electrical and life safety systemsDetermine work required to above systems regularlyAssist in providing regular on-going communication with team members in order to create awareness of business objectives, communicate expectations, and recognize performanceRecommend or arrange for additional services such as painting, repair work, renovations, and the replacement of furnishings and equipmentSelect and order or purchase new equipment, supplies, and furnishingsAssist in supervising the day-to-day operations of Engineering and related departmentsMaintain accurate logs and recordsOperate generators and fire pumps as necessaryProvide emergency response services 24/7Repair equipment (e.g., refrigeration, laundry) as necessaryEnsure all team members have the proper supplies, equipment, and uniformsEmpower team members to provide excellent customer service, leads by exampleTrain team members in safety proceduresCommunicate performance expectations in accordance with job descriptionsAssist in interviews and hiring of team members with the appropriate skillsConduct fire drills and earthquake drills/evacuations on a quarterly basis for complianceRequirements:High school degree (or equivalency) with Hotel/College training preferredStationary Engineer's license if required by local codeHVAC, electrical, plumbing, boiler operations and general maintenance skills requiredSubstantial knowledge of local laws and building codesA minimum of 2 years' experience in the Engineering or Maintenance or related fieldHold applicable certificates (Security License, FSD, CPR, etc.)Knowledge and ability to read P&L, budget, financial statementsStrong oral and written communication skillsExperience working in a labor organized environment preferredEffective listening skills to understand and clarify concerns from team members and guestsExcellent problem solving and creative thinking skillsSolid background in OSHA regulations, emergency planning and response efforts and follow all legal safety requirementsAbility to focus attention to performance of tasks despite frequent, stressful, or unusual interruptionsAbility to de-escalate situations and remain calm under pressureOrganizational skills and attention to detailProficient in the use of Microsoft OfficeExcellent time managementAbility to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environmentStrong leadership and communication skillsAn aptitude for self-motivationA can-do attitude and a hands-on approachA flexible schedule that allows availability days, nights, holidays, and weekends based on the demands of the hotel
